Answer: Petula Clark

Petula Clark was born Sally Olwen Clark. "I Know A Place" was written by Tony Hatch and was a follow-up to Petula's first American hit "Downtown". Petula had been singing on BBC Radio since 1942 at age nine and had several hit records in Europe in the 50s and 60s before "Downtown" which established her as an international artist.

It entered the Billboard Hot 100 on April 3, 1965 and peaked at number three. It remained on the chart for nine weeks.
2. "A Place in The Sun"

Answer: Stevie Wonder

"A Place In The Sun" was written by Ronald Miller and Bryan Wells. It reached number nine on the Billboard pop singles chart and number three on the R&B chart in 1966. It also reached number 29 on the Easy Listening chart. It was a follow-up single to Stevie's rendition of Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind" and had the same folk feel to it.
3. "We Gotta Get Out of This Place"

Answer: The Animals

The Animals hailed from Newcastle Upon Tyne and featured Eric Burdon as their lead vocalist. They moved to London in 1964 when they began to achieve success as recording artists. "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" was written by the legendary team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

Many American soldiers serving in Vietnam adopted it as an anthem of sorts. It is recognized by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". The Animals' version peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart and number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965.
4. "Sam's Place"

"Sam's Place" was the first single release from Buck Owens' "Tender Loving Care" album. It was written by Red Simpson but Buck is also given credit as a co-writer. Buck's recording went all the way to number one on the Billboard country chart where it remained for three weeks. The record also crossed over into the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 92.
5. "A Place to Fall Apart"

Answer: Merle Haggard

"A Place To Fall Apart" was a number one country record for Merle Haggard in late 1984. It was co-written by Merle, Willie Nelson and Freddy Powers. Merle sings it as a duet with Janie Fricke. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart on February 2, 1985.
6. "You've Still Got A Place In My Heart"

Answer: George Jones

"You've Still Got A Place In My Heart" was written and originally recorded by Leon Payne in 1950. It has been covered by several artists, including Dean Martin and Glen Campbell, but it was George Jones who had the greatest success with it. Jones' version, released from the album of the same name, peaked at number three on the Billboard country chart in 1984.
7. "(There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays"

Although many artists have recorded "(There's No Place Like Home) For The Holidays" Perry Como's version is the most widely played and has been the most successful. The song was composed by Robert Allen and Al Stillman. Perry Como recorded the original version on November 16, 1954. He re-recorded it in 1959 with a different arrangement.
8. "Another Place, Another Time"

Answer: Jerry Lee Lewis

In the late 60s Jerry Lee Lewis re-invented himself as a country artist, "Another Place, Another Time" was the title track of his first pure country album. The song was written by Jerry Chestnut. The single went all the way to number four in 1968 and remained on the Billboard country chart for 17 weeks. It was the first of a string of several country hits for Jerry Lee.
9. "No Place That Far"

Answer: Sara Evans

"No Place That Far" was the title track of Sara Evans' album. It was released on September 28, 1998 and went to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles in March, 1999. It spent 17 weeks on the country chart and also crossed over onto the Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at number 37. On Billboard's year-end country chart it was number 26.
10. "Heaven Is A Place On Earth"

Answer: Belinda Carlisle

"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" was the lead single from Belinda Carlisle's second solo album since leaving The Go Go's. The song was co-written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley. Nowels also produced the album. Released on September 14, 1987 the single peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
