This morning I started thinking about how this website got started. I know there are a lot of players who have been here for years, so I was wondering if anybody has been around since the day it went online. How do you start a website like this? Did the creator sit down with some friends and create a bunch of quizzes and then put them online? Did s/he put the page up and call for submissions? It's a pretty sophisticated operation and there were probably some tricky logistics in there. Does anybody know/remember?

I have had a look through part of the list of members, from date registered in the forums as they are now. Here are some of the early ones who are still here and active.

Terry
Sypher
Ren - first registered as 32 but lost that account and had to re-register with a different number
SilverMoonsong, her father was Gunslinger, you can read about him at the top of this forum, he was extremely active and did so much for the site.
sue943 - so that would be me
gtho4

Other members, such as satguru were here early on too.

I can see why you stuck with this site! By the way, some quizzes have the dates they were created on them and a lot of them don't. Any reason? I've been trying to find the really old ones

It was probably decided at some point to add the date. If a quiz is modified, perhaps a correction or update then the last date this was done is shown. I have one quiz online, written many years ago, as in early part of the millenium, perhaps 2002, the date show by the quiz is March 2019 which was an update.

Oh, I see. Well, I found a few old ones anyway, I can tell they're old because the interesting info is generally between 3 and 5 words!

The standard of the very early quizzes is often nowhere as polished as newer quizzes.

Some quizzes were only 5 questions long.
I have loved my time here. Twenty years of it. Early days were fun, I made some really close friendships and had marvellous holidays with generous people from all over. I love the fact that if there is content that might hurt feelings, or over the top language, it is quickly removed.
Go FT and thanks to all who help to make it great.

At one stage, very early on, we had live chat sessions at times, I used to chat to gtho4 and got to know him well, before either of us joined the Staff. Then later FT linked up with some interactive quiz site, you could make live comments whilst playing. As it wasn't restricted to FT members we got problems, as you can imagine with some very nasty people. So endeth the gaming rooms!

I know what you mean about the general pleasantness of this site. It's very relaxing, not having to brace myself for the trolls who inevitably jump out at you practically everywhere else. I'm sorry about the game room here and am reminded of my sister's AA meetings, which went on zoom at the beginning of the Covid lockdown. They were open meetings till they were invaded by folks keen on exposing their body parts frown
