It is not often that I get a chance to defend a title, so I will be there, with bells on!

- Serena Williams proved yet again that when she means business, there's not many who can beat her...Victoria Azarenka finished second best for a second year in a row at New York but she's clearly the second best player on the planet right now!
- Flavia Pennetta, Daniela Hantuchova and Carla Suarez Navarro provided the thrills this year with deep runs into the draw, upsetting all of our plans here
 - We fared jusssttt a wee bit better than the Wimbledon as a group, but in another bizarre comp in which not one of us managed to pick 3 of the 8 players, Dizart wins the US Open Women's tipping comp for 2013.
- He picked up 44 of the possible 198 points (for a 22.20%) but that was 4 more than the next 3 on our list...paper_aero wins silver medal with a "perfect" tie-break score.
- Sypher missed Wimbledon with a sore shoulder, declared it is always fun to beat ozzz2002 when he signed up here, and he proceeded to do just that, pipping ozzz to the bronze, again, on a better tie-break score
... ozzz nearly made it to the podium on the back of one outrageous pick (Makarova), but guess he will have to wait for his home Grand Slam in 2014 to get even with Sypher - Tie-break scores also decided the next 4 placings in our comp here. gtho4 also had a perfect tie-break score, but that is his only consolation as he ends the 2013 Grand Slam season with a spoon score.
- We have had 4 different winners of the women's comps this year: srini701 (Australian), gtho4 (French) and George95 (Wimbledon)...
- Congrats then to Dizart, paper_aero and Sypher for finishing tops this year...

- Rafael Nadal capped a very dominating hard court season with a second US Open (and 13th Grand Slam) title to add one more credential for the "Best player of all-time" title. If he wins another Australian Open, he will become ONLY the 3rd person in history (after Rod Laver and Roy Emerson) to win every Grand Slam at least twice! And remember Laver and Emerson did not have to do it on 4 different surfaces!!
- Roger Federer FAILED to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the second time in a row, Andy Murray was too "spent emotionally after winning Wimbledon", Richard Gasquet and Stanislas Wawrinka made surprise runs to the semi-finals and all this affected our standings here
- Howie72 tipped Gasquet to make it to the last 4, while George95 tipped Wawrinka to reach the quarters. This enabled them to garner the extra points and tie for the top spot....A better tie-break enabled Howie72 to land the top spot, leaving George95 to be content with the silver medal.
- Dizart also tipped Gasquet to reach the quarters, and this helps him become the only person this year to land a medal in both the men's and women's comp (illiniman14 had done this last year but he went AWOL this year).
- ozzz2002 can thank Djokovic for all the points he won this year, but that still doesn't save him from the spoon....From defending champion to spoon is like losing in straight sets in the first round of the tourney to a qualifier, ozzz
...will we see a different ozzz in the Australian Open in January? Wait and see - gtho4 won the Australian Open and Wimbledon men's titles while srini701 won the French...Howie72 thus joins them in the HoF record books for 2013...
Well done then, to Howie72, George95 and Dizart, and see you all again in January for the Australian Open (if Leo allows me)...

If only Williams had not dropped her second set... Lovely write-ups, Srini, and well played by all our winners, even Sypher.
