Father's Day is just around the corner, so I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread for those of you who would like to exchange gift and party ideas.

I bought myself a pocket knife and Father's Day is a resonable excuse for spending the $30. My old knife lasted over 40 years and is ready for recycling to my work shop as a standby.
If you buy hubby or dad a fancy folding knife that he will carry anywhere, make sure that the blade is less than 3 inches long -- unless he never flies on commercial airlines -- the airlines consider anything longer to be a weapon.

Every year it is so hard to decide what to get my father. He is one of those men who already seems to have everything. So what I am doing this year is getting him a golf certificate at his local golf course. He can buy what ever he wishes that way.

Okay here's another "basket" idea. A bucket, sponges, brushes, towels, etc...all the things you need to wash a car...plus a few "gift certificates" for free washes from you.

The pocket knife thing is a good idea too. I gave my dad one of those Leatherman Micros last year. He liked it alot and he's carried a regular pocket knife for as long as I've known him.

BTW: Not only do you have to be careful with the airlines about carrying it, but DO NOT take it with you to your next parent/teacher conference no matter how small the knife may be. My sister-in-law went to meet with her daughter's teacher and had a small "knife" (1 inch blade) attached to her key chain. She was accused of carrying a weapon on school grounds! What a mess that turned out to be, she was able to get it worked out without a criminal record however.

The year that my father passed away, I got him a Dung Buddy just so he could say he got crap for Father's Day. Shortly after buying him that, I found a card praising the Grand Poopa. LOL He loved it! He especially loved the reaction of his boss when he asked her if she would like to keep it on her desk for a while!

If your father is getting older and can't see as well as he used to, you might consider buying him a new watch with a larger face and bigger numbers as a Father's Day present. There are also many things you can do for your dad that don't cost any money, but will show him that you care. One thing I recently did for my dad is give him a foot massage and used 'Pretty Feet' to rub off any dead skin. Then I put lots of Vaseline on his feet and wrapped them with Saran Wrap and then a pair of socks before he went to bed and he loved it. His feet were so smooth the next day and he said that the foot massage relaxed his entire body.

What did you buy for your father for Father's Day this year? If we list what we bought this year, maybe we will help others who are looking for a gift to buy next year at this time.

My dad loves to play golf so I bought him a Caddie Mat.
* Automatic return putting mat.
* Automatic return ball
* Perfect putting green survace.
* Returns made & missed putts

He received it yesterday and opened it up a day early (bad daddy) lol and was putting in the living room for most of the day. Good thing mom is cool, she had fun playing also.
