I remember reading a book by Hilaire Belloc many years ago and would love to read it again to see if it is as good as I remember it.

It was about a boy who desperately wanted a cat, but was refused by his parents. One day he woke up to find he had turned into a kitten. A female tabby cat took him under her wing and they became best of friends.

Some time later he woke in his own bed and his parents gave him a kitten, but he cried for his tabby friend.

Am I going mad? I have tried looking, but get confused.

I will be off to bed soon, but will be back.

Are you completely sure it was Hilaire Belloc? Because I'm thinking about Paul Gallico's "Jennie" which was published in the US under the title "The Abandoned".
