Here we go then, in a tribute to our Canadian friends who brought up the subject and Red Green the comedian who has brought it to the screen, what sorts of things do you do with duct tape?

At the moment it is still winter here in the frozen north...and last Fall someone stole the Opera Light Cover from the landau roof of my old Caddy. I was lucky enough to find a replacement part on the 'net...and...til the weather improves...the empty socket is covered in grey duct tape so the water doesn't get in! I've also seen it used rather fashionably to hold together my friend's gardening shoes! ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/laugh.gif)

Duct tape, now that's D U C T, right???lol. Anyway, aside from taping bumpers, I personally have driven my husband crazy by securing such things as table legs that he's procastinated about fixing for too long. Measures had to be taken...Duct tape works! ![[Razz]](images/icons/tongue.gif)

Holding up my rear view mirror in the car at a prcarious angle which vibrates as I drive why did I have it in the first place - to tape down trailing wires at venues where I hold Quiz nights (to stop people being stupid and falling over them , and the law suits that would follow)

I've not heard the comic mentioned, but there have been all sorts of funny things said about---AND done with---duct tape. Everybody in the South keeps a roll on hand, just like any other household staple, like salt or toilet paper. A friend of mine insists that between them duct tape and Crisco keep the Universe in balance---anything that needs to be held tighter, you use duct tape, anything that needs to be looser, you use Crisco!

Was Red Green the one who said that duct tape was like the Force? It has a light side, and a dark side, and it holds the Universe together?

Is this a silvery coloured sticky tape approximately 2 inches (5cm) wide? Well I watched Jerry Springer last night, yeah, yeah, well apparently you can use it to strap dead fish to your body.

Well, Sue, one never knows when one will want dead fish taped to the body. I've used it to hold the hem up on a pair of jeans. It was this past weekend and had to go to a party and hadn't worn these things yet and realised they were way too long so out came the tape. The party was at night and outdoors and quite dark and it turned out quite well, just ironed down the very end (avoiding the tape) so it looked like a proper hem and no one was any the wiser. ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/laugh.gif) It would have turned out worse if I'd even attempted to sew them.

I've used duct tape to totally reupholster a chair seat on an old kitchen chair! I've also used it to repair broken t.v. and radio antennas.

I've used it to tape several plug cords(TV, VCR, radio) together so the kids wouldn't play with them. My youngest son recently started taking his diaper off before we would realize he needed changing. My husband said put duct tape across the tabs, he won't be able to get it off. I didn't believe him, but it works!

Wonder if you could shave your legs with that stuff? Like Mel Gibson in "what women want"?
Yikes, that must smart!

Sorry, never tried shaving my legs with it! In my sailing club we always refer to duct tape as McGyver tape, for obvious reasons ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif) It comes in pretty handy when you wake up in the middle of the night and find out your tent is not so waterproof anymore...!

We call it Gaffer tape here! In theatre circles it is called the force that binds the universe. Now I know where they got that little saying from. Mr. Cally is a DJ/sound technician and he gets through an unbelieveable amount of the stuff. Mainly due to avoiding being sued by pub goers and the listening public that may fall over stray wires!! Its uses have trickled down to general household uses too. Toys are fixed with it (and car bumpers too), sharp edges around the house are made child friendly with the use of it with towels and yes, I admit, some revealing outfits have been made to look better with the use of it in the affore mentioned em bustal area!!!

I have used it a time or two to wrap Christmas presents with. I know a couple guys (family members) who are duct tape fans, so I used it instead of scotch tape one year to wrap their Christmas presents with. They got a kick out of it.

Just had a flash, I told you that I always give out stuff like flashlights to guys as they just love them? And a self respecting toddler to senior male loves a flashlight...I've tried it a million times. My husband told me I was crazy, but everyone who received it found it emminently practical. so what if you put a flashlight in a package and wrap it with duct tape!
My dad lives by Superglue and duct tape.
You know it is really good to clean the hair off of jackets or fabrics?

One year for Christmas, my sister bought a pocketknife for our stepbrother. She put it in a small box and sealed it with duct tape, then into a slightly bigger box, sealed with duct tape, then into - you get the drift. She used about 6 boxes that way. By the time he finally got to the knife after working with all that tape, he didn't see the humor of a knife being the gift. The rest of us laughed though.
