The Melbourne Cup is one of the premier horse races in the world and will be contested on November 5th, at 3pm Melbourne time.
There are still 72 horses in contention, so it is probably better to wait for a while before entering your tip. There will be several ballots before the final field of 24 is announced on the Saturday prior to the race.
The rules and conditions are the same as usual, viz,
RULES
Pick ten horses in the order of finishing.
Points will be allocated for the first five horses on a 10-6-3-2-1 basis.
Tiebreaker will be the order of the picks, ie, if you have the winner as your third pick, you will beat anyone that has that horse or fourth (or higher).
Entries close just before the race, at 2.59pm Melbourne time.

Last year, Fiorenti finished second, at long odds. This year, he went one better, at much shorter odds (he was favourite). Amazingly, he brought home the first ever Cup for premier trainer, Gai Waterhouse- the first in 19 attempts. Mount Athos also featured last year, finishing fifth. This year, he finished third. We only had nine starters this year, and eight of us picked first, third and fifth. N-Bomb tipped first, second, third and fifth, and is this year's winner. BxBarracuda finished second and paper_aero pipped gtho4 for third. paper_aero had the winner first in his tips, and gtho4 had him in ninth. There was a pack of four close behind that pair, with FussBudget bringing up the rear.
