In a repeat performance, ozzz2002 and N-Bomb score back-to-back weekly wins .. both of them move up to their highest positions for the season.

PaulE retains the lead .. the first three have skipped away to put three points between themselves and the peleton.

The weather in the UK is creating havoc .. this round has dragged out across 10 days.

The first three players were the only ones who kept their spot from the previous round .. biggest movers were LeoDaVinci and dg_dave .. both of them moved up *five* places.

LeoDaVinci and Howie72 scored their first weekly win.

Sypher collected his first spoon and paper_aero his second .. both of them moved down to their lowest position for the year .. ditto wwe84. On the other hand, ozzz2002 and Dizart moved up to their highest positions for the season.

We had three weekly winners for the FA Cup quarter-finals, all with 9/16:
  • PaulE doubles his lead out front to 4 points.
  • Howie72 scores back-to-back wins to climb
    up into the 3rd podium spot, which is where
    he was at the start of the season.
  • Dizart climbs up into 9th, a new high for the
    season.
Sypher falls to 14th place, under the weight of back-to-back wooden spoons. This is a new low for the season.

Manchester City lost! This upset home loss to Wigan Athletic has decimated our advance picks. BxBarracuda is now the only one with a complete set of live picks: two finalists and the winner. Ten of us are running dead, with zero live! See post above this one for the complete list.

PaulE may have enough of a lead, at 4 points, to win this. Those of us who are close enough to mow him down may fail, due to a lack of advance picks which will are live; and available to bear fruit.

The semi-finals draw was announced yesterday:
  • Sheffield United v Hull City
  • Wigan Athletic v Arsenal
Hull City have never won the FA Cup. Next month will see them play in their second-ever FA Cup semi .. their first was in 1930. Sheffield United last played in an FA Cup final in 1936 (lost to Arsenal) and last won it in 1925 (their 4th ever win). If they do overcome Hull City, they will become the first-ever team from the third tier to play in an FA Cup final (the one below the FAPL and FLC).

Sheffield United are the 9th team from the third tier to play in an FA Cup semi-final. The previous teams were: 1937 Millwall, 1954 Port Vale, 1955 York City, 1959 Norwich City, 1976 Crystal Palace, 1984 Plymouth Argyle, 1997 Chesterfield and the eighth was 2001 Wycombe Wanderers.

The odds are against both Hull and Arsenal losing .. from the day the Football League was formed in 1888, the FA Cup final has never been contested by two teams from outside the top tier of English football.

Some trivia to ponder - what are the odds of Wigan, a team outside the top tier, winning the final? This feat has happened eight times: 1894 Notts County, 1901 Tottenham Hotspur, 1908 Wolverhampton Wanderers, 1912 Barnsley, 1931 W Bromwich Albion, 1973 Sunderland, 1976 Southampton & 1980 West Ham United. All of these winners were in the Second Division except for Spurs (they weren't even a member of the Football League).

There was just one weekly winner for the FA Cup semi-finals: dg_dave with a score of 11/16. He scored only one point with his advance picks, but 10 pts came from five correct picks out of six .. he picked HT and FT and the first goal in *both* semis except for the first scorer in the Arsenal game! He's come out of nowhere, six pts behind the leader, pushes the leader down to 3rd, and ends up 2 pts in front of second.

George95 collects the wooden spoon with 2/16 and falls down to 7th place 8pts behind 3rd place. He was previously just one point off the podium.

A year ago we had the Wigan Athletic fairy tale. They played in their first-ever FA Cup Final; and beat Manchester City.

This year we have a Hull City fairy tale. Their appearance in the semi-finals over the weekend was their second-ever (their first was 84 years ago in 1930). Next month they will walk out onto the Wembley pitch for their first-ever FA Cup Final appearance, on Saturday 17th May.

KrivoyRog bolted along the rails to snatch gold from dg_dave by a single point. PaulE kept third spot to collect the bronze medal (he was tied for third with Howie72 but won the bronze medal on a countback).

PaulE was the *only* player who kept his spot from the previous round! Musical chairs is expected in the early rounds of a tipping comp, but highly unusual for the final round.

BxBarracuda is this round's winner with a score of 12/16. He flew down the middle of the track with a withering finish and, physically exhausted and breathless, collapsed on the finish line a mere two points off the podium! He picked the winner with his advance pick, he picked *both* finalists with his advance picks (the only tipster to achieve this feat, which included picking Hull City to make their first ever appearance in an FA Cup Final and earnt him a bonus pt); he also picked Hull City to score first.

Sypher collects the wooden spoon with stupendous picks of 0/16 scored. He picked nothing, zilch .. even his advance pick for the winner failed to make the quarter-finals, which would've earnt him a point. If he did earn a point, eight of us would've collected a wooden spoon each!

ozzz2002 finished in seventh place, his highest position all season. Sypher, George95 and wwe84 all set new low points for the season. Everyone scored a weekly win or a wooden spoon during the comp except one .. gtho4 took no risks with his picks, and duly finished in the bottom half of the table.

runaway_drive joined as a late starter. Welcome aboard! Now that he's tested the water and whet his appetite, let's see if he'll join us from the start of a comp .. the World Cup comp, which starts next month on 12th June, might be a goer!

Arsenal came from 0-2 after 8 minutes to beat Hull City 3-2 in extra time.
