When Tom Seaver arrived in Cincinnati, who gave up #41 so Seaver could wear it?

As a rabid Reds fan for about 45 years, I immediately consulted my "Reds Greatest Hits-76" album with a picture of the team
on the back ! Alas, there are 3 players whose numbers are obscured- I'm gonna guess Mike Lum who had been obtained before the '76 season !

It's sad that the Reds were not able to capitalize on the acquisition of Seaver -
Maybe because they traded Tony Perez after the '76 season ?

Back to my '76 album ! The only non-players in unis are coaches. In order in the front row left to right are: Russ Nixon, Ted Klu, Larry Shepard, Sparky and George Scherger. Must not be pictured - as all their numbers are clearly visible for this '76 team photo....
When the answer is revealed, I'd sure like to know the source - thanks ! Seaver did come to the Reds in the Spring of '77 or am I dreaming ? LOL

You're not dreaming reedman .... I posted this quite a while back on another site and someone picked it off pretty quick ... I'll tell you the source is "The New York Sports Quiz" by Brenda Alesii and Daniel Locche.

The person in question holds a record that I'm sure will never be broken.

I looked up the authors of the New York Sports Quiz and found they have written several collaborations for several U.S. cities. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in accessing the info contained therein, so I'll have to pass on this question. It's been fun looking for it though....

How about the man with 2 consecutive no-hitters, John Vandermeer?

Not him PD .. The person in questions record has something to do with age.

Speaking of Vandermeer, who finally got a hit of him to end his streak?

Boy, have I been leaning in the wrong
direction. When you mentioned age, I'm thinking OLD ! DUH ! No wonder I can't find a picture of this guy - he's behind the mike and occasionally tosses batting practice. If I'm right, you're talking about Joe Nuxhall, who in 1944, at the age of 15 became the youngest player to ever appear in a Major League baseball game. Sure, he got lit up, but he set a record that certainly will never be broken !

Well, sports fans - Johnny V. is rolling right along. We're in the 4th inning and after back-to-back no-hitters,
he has extended his hitless string to
21 1/3 innings - a new National League record ! The count on Debs Garms is 2 and 1 - there it is ! a crisp single and Johnny Vandermeer's unbelievable saga
ends where it began 8 days ago on June 11, 1938. Against the Boston Braves !!!
