A week ago a question appeared in Ask FunTrivia as to whether North Korea has rock bands. (Are there rock bands in North Korea? Q #133018). The question received an accurate answer - namely, yes - and some detail.
This prompted me to try to find out more.
I did some browsing on YouTube, and as far as I can discover the key group is the all-female Boranbong Band. I'm not an expert on music, but some of their music strikes me as very good indeed, for example:
'We Love'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAczlOpUg84and
'Camp Fire'

[No title]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwBBspny7F8There's also this:
'Collection of World Famous Songs'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP7lfAcnJicHowever, they seem (from the YouTube postings) to sing mainly, perhaps solely, to invited audiences that are preponderantly male, military and/or consist of Party officials ... I don't speak Korean, but it is obvious that some of the songs are militaristic. See, for example:

'Without a Break'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wICukXliIWoHere the firing of a rocket on film in the background plus the music brings the audience to its feet and seems to send them wild with excitement!
The women are all very talented and very pretty, too.

I wondered whether to post this in Music or here and opted for this forum.
