What does that lower left bicycle icon painted on the street mean?
I think it means that there's a cycle path 25 metres ahead.
Some of our cycle lanes where I live (Bristol, UK) are well thought out and safe to use but others are badly planned and/or maintained. One of the main problems I've found with any cycle lanes which run on the inside of major roads is that they're most likely to have potholes and drains which can force cyclist to take evasive action which can only mean swerving into the road. Most drivers will give cyclists plenty of room when they overtake, others seem to take sport from seeing how close they can get.
Bristol is quite a hilly city unlike London, Berlin or Manhattan for example, so that tends to put a lot of people off. It's also one of the most congested so it's a bit of a catch 22 situation I guess.
I have no pictures of cycle lanes to add...
