42 games after losing 0-1 away to Leeds United on 19-Nov-1977 Notingham Forest were undefeated for the remaining 26 games of the season, and the first 16 games of the following season until they lost 0-2 away to Liverpool on 09-Dec-1978 (which is more than a year after their previous loss)
34 games after losing 1-5 away to Burnley on 19-Oct-1968 Leeds United aka The Mighty Whites were undefeated for the remaining 28 games of the season, and at the start of the following season 1969-70 until they lost their 7th game 2-3 away to Everton on 30-Aug-1969

-A the next longest run of undefeated games is 31, who holds that record?
-B who holds the record for the longest undefeated run in a single season?
-C what is the longest undefeated run from the start of a season? two teams share this distinction
-D which team played a total of 53 games and lost only once? as this is an unusual record it's might not be in any record book

C- Leeds and Liverpool both went 28 games undefeated from the start of the season.
I think Leeds lost to Stoke (1973-74 season) and Liverpool lost 1-0 to Everton.
I can't remember which season without checking. I also think Alan Clarkes' son Wayne scored the winner that day.

-C yep spot on in all respects except it was 29 games

I can still remember both events, losing to Stoke 2-3 in Feb 74, and in the late 80s Everton did us "a huge favour" beating Liverpool, I think it was the 87-88 season but I'd have to recheck it

both runs were one game short of equalling the record in B

A Leeds United - undefeated last 2 games at end of the season 1972-73 plus the run of 29 games undefeated from the start of the following season in C
B Burnley 30 games 04-Sep-1920 lost 2-0 away to Bradford to 26-Mar-1921 when lost 3-0 away to Manchester City
D Leeds United after their run of 34 games undefeated came to end there was another run of 18 games undefeated

will post the dates for A and D when I can re-locate the sheets of paper!

    Thanks for those gt.
I spent hours looking for the answers to all the football questions.
I'm just glad you've put my mind at rest for a while 'cos they were driving me nuts.
