Who wore the highest number in major league baseball history, and what # was it?

hey CC we all had an interesting time in the chat room the other day, eh! ... I wish I could join in on some of your sports trivia, there are some unbelievable stats collected on your continent; I don't even know what numbering system is used but I'll have a stab at it, how does 29 sound

Good effort gtho4 but its higher than that!

Its good to see that some of your Soccer questions are being answered. Personally, I have no idea about teams, leagues or anything like that!

reedman thats the right number and I've never thought if there's anyone wearing it now or not .. I'm not at home right now and the name escapes me at the moment but work on it and I'll let you know if you get the player ..

I can't speak historically, but the only current MLB player on the 2000
pre-season roster that I see is #99
Turk Wendell of the New York Mets !

Well reedman, got to give you Turk Wendell ..Good job!

The player I'm looking for wore 99 during his last season in the majors which was 1977!

I'm not sure who you're after CC, but Mitch Williams wore #99 for the Phillies as recently as '93.
I still remember seeing his back as he watched Joe Carter's home run leave the park in game 6 of the '93 series.
