In 1963, my 22nd & final season, I passed a few milestones. Early in the season, I collected my 1357th extra-base hit, passing Babe Ruth for the all-time lead (Henry Aaron would pass me several years later). In July, I played in my 24th All-Star Game (remember, they played 2 per season from 1959 to 1962). And on September 12, I hit a home run in my first at-bat as a grandfather. I finished the year hitting .255 with 12 homers & 58 RBI in 337 at-bats, excellent work for a 42-year-old, I'd have to say.
