There were some early cautions brought out by Ryan Truex Jr., lap 40, Travis Kvapil, lap 60, Michael Annett, lap 93 and Cole Whitt, lap 126. Kevin Harvick had the best car in the early going. Lap 175 had Kasey Kahne getting caught speeding on pit road. Next batch of cautions were for Paul Menard, lap 201 and lap 271, Aric Almirola, lap 221, and Michael Annett, Kyle Larson along with Justin Algaier all hit the wall within 5 laps of lap 247. Lap 219 had green flag stops and Kevin Harvick still dominating. Lap 257 had Joey Logano smoking and fading from the top 10. On the lap 362 restart Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon took 2 tires, which left race leader Kevin Harvick to battle from 5th on 4 tires in the last 5 laps of the race. On the restart Johnson started to pull away and Kevin Harvick was slowed down for a lap battling Jeff Gordon for 4th, but once he took that spot from Gordon, Harvick passed Matt Kenseth for 3rd fairly quickly. After a debris caution Johnson strangely chose the top line, leaving Harvick pushing Earnhart Jr. on the bottom line. Harvick pushes Jr. and himself past Johnson just before another caution comes out after Kurt Busch slid up the track some and after contract went into the interior wall. The final restart had Jr. leading with Harvick right next to him. In a short time Harvick went around the outside of Jr. like he was standing still and grabbed the victory
Howie took to honors this week scoring the HoF with a 118, in a week where everyone was within 19 points of each other. Gtho4 took the spoon this week with a 99.
The current manufacturer count is 109 Chevys, 95 Fords, and 48 Toyotas picked by tippers this year. 18 different drivers have been chosen with Brad Keselowski being the most popular having been chosen 44 times. Jimmie Johnson is the most popular Chase driver with 30. Carl Edwards with 25 and Tony Stewart with 21 are the only other drivers with picked more than 20 times so far. Last year Chase drivers who haven't been picked at all this year are Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman
Next race is two weeks on Saturday at Richmond.

It got ugly early when on the first turn Clint Bowyer’s reputation took another hit as he spun out rookie pole sitter Kyle Larson, Clint had also been the one involved in the late crash of Kurt Busch just last week as well, not to mention him being the main culprit in last year’s penalties to MWR Racing. There was a competition caution on lap 40, then one for debris on lap 99 which caught Bowyer in the pits and a lap down even following the wave around. Lap 157 has Cole Whitt smoking with a right front tire down, lap 159 had Clint Bowyer also with a right front tire go down and he picked up some flaming tire debris left by Cole Whitt on pit row. Before the caution is over Cole Whitt is off track with flames coming from under his front tire, and Bowyer hits the wall and is done for the day with fire under the right side ruining his suspension. Jeff Gordon was the strongest driver early on. On lap 296 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the 3rd car of the day with fire issues under his right side tire bringing out a caution. Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards were having tough days 2 laps down at that point, and on lap 366 Johnson had a tire go down making matters worse for him. The rest of this race was all about four drivers, with Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. also being right there for all the action. With 4 laps to go following cautions brought out by Denny Hamlin. J.J. Yeley and Casey Mears the showdown was set up. It started with Matt Kenseth leading Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano to the line with Kyle Busch lurking in the top 10 and the only 1 with 4 fresh tires. Kenseth got off the line ahead of Gordon with Keselowski charging hard. Keselowski jockeyed for position eventually ending up in between the top 2 coming around a turn, which leads to them all bumping and sliding, mostly Matt and Brad, which allowed Joey Logano to sneak in underneath and take the lead, while Jr. got passed by the freight train which was Kyle Busch on fresh tires, who also ran past Kenseth and Keselowski to finish 3rd, behind Gordon and race winner Joey Logano.
Sypher dominated with his drivers going 1-3-4 with his drivers to take the HoF with a 129 and Clint Bowyer’s car issues left illiniman14 without a safety net and the spoon with an 89.
Next race is next Sunday at Talladega.

Brad Keselowski is getting a little dangerous again as he started his Sunday by trying to force the lead away from Danica Patrick on lap 13, but didn't have quite enough room to cut her off and sent himself spinning. Then while 6 laps down he raced hard in the middle of a pack and ended up starting a 6 car wreck which took out major players such as Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. That chain reaction accident had a major impact on our scoring this week. Denny Hamlin got his first win of the year, A.J. Allmendinger his first top 5 and many top drivers found themselves in the lower half of the points this week.
Illiniman14 was wise to have faith in his new squad that got off to a rough start last week, because they destroyed the competition this week, illiniman was the only tipper in triple digits, the only one above 75 points and 48 points above the average. Four tippers had their top driver score less than illiniman's third place driver. The worst of the worst this week and truly deserving of spoons were BxBarracuda and Howie72, who only scored 37’s. I'll check the record books but they probably set a new low mark, and may not have been the only ones to score below the previous low mark. I think the low average mark was shattered this week as well.
Srini's 45 was enough to make him the new season leader, and the top 6 are now within 35 points of each other.
Next race is Saturday at Kansas.

On this Mother’s Day the honor of waving the green flag went to Clint Bowyer’s mother. Weather delayed the start of the race which had Kevin Harvick on the pole and Joey Logano beside him for the first night race at Kansas Motor Speedway. The fuel window for this 267 lap race around the 1 ½ mile track was 46 – 50 laps. By the 25th lap Harvick had already lapped 12 cars and Jeff Gordon was on the move. Danica Patrick was hanging in the top 10 after starting 9th and following a week of extra advice from Kevin Harvick. Green flag stops began on lap 42 and on lap 47 when Clint Bowyer spun out bringing out the first caution leaving only Brad Keselowski, who hadn’t yet pitted, the only driver on the lead lap and the whole rest of the field to take the wave around. Lap 60 had Landon Cassill, David Ragan, Ryan Truex Jr. and Michael Annett involved in a wreck and Ryan’s day over. The crashes began with Ragan spinning out and Truex running into him. Denny Hamlin restarted in the top 5 but on lap 71 he spun out. Laps 101 – 110 had the drivers making green flag stops and some were caught in the pits when Marcos Ambrose brought out a caution after spinning out. This put all the drivers back on the same pit schedule and Kyle Busch to the back of the lead lap line for a speeding penalty. Some of the outside lights at the track went out but there was enough illumination to keep racing and they did come back on later. Jamie McMurray hit the wall and his whole car caught fire ending his day on lap 150. Danica moved herself into 3rd on lap 172, and then Kurt Busch was the next to spin out and bring out a caution. Lap 186 had a nasty crash as Paul Menard was slow on the track, which caused A.J. Allmendinger to make adjustments that led to him spinning out and clipping Justin Algaier as he went spinning into the grass, Casey Mears also spun around in the grass to avoid any crash, but the clipping of Algaier caused him to go sideways up the track and get broadsided by David Gilliland, who couldn’t avoid him. Though it was a horrible sight both drivers were OK afterwards. Joey Logano had the lead at that point with Kevin Harvick trying to track him down. Lap 202 had Kurt Busch spinning out again. By lap 220 Harvick had the lead with Gordon in 2nd. The top 10 cars made their final pit stops with about 30 laps to go, most important of them was Gordon’s on lap 236 and Harvick’s on lap 237, which left Jeff with the edge over Kevin with a quicker stop and an extra lap on fresher tires. Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski stayed out the longest before their final pit stops, with Johnson making his with 10, Denny with 9, and Brad 8 laps to go. Following those pit stops Jeff Gordon had the lead and cruised to a victory as Harvick couldn’t track him down before the checkered flag. Danica finished in 7th, which capped off what may have been her strongest all-around performance in her NASCAR career as she rarely was out of the top 10 all day.
Bx took the HoF with 117 this week and snuck back into the lead. All tippers were in triple digits and the spoon was shared by Howie, illinman and Sypher with 103.
Next race is in two weeks on Sunday at Charlotte.

Only 42 cars entered this weeks race, 1 short of the normal 43 cars for most races. 2001 was the last time that a race didn't start with the 43 cars, which was stadardized in 1998 and a full field hasn't showed up to qualify for a race since 1996. There is, and will be, much speculation as to if this makes a statement regarding the sport as a whole. Some might say the sport is losing popularity, others that the sport is top heavy with a seperation between drivers that have a real chance to win a race and those who are just trying to finish the race, while many will also note the high cost of financing a team in a sport where the cost of a car, which on any given week could get wrecked, can prove too much.

The race was delayed a day by rain and on Sunday the rain was still playing a major factor. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was aggressive early and that is not a good way to run on the super-speedway of Daytona. His tenacity lead to himself and some of the favorites in this race being out of the race early as he caused a wreck that swept up Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. Greg Biffle getting into Kasey Kahne on lap 99 led to the biggest wreck of the race as 26 of the 41 cars on the track were involved, including Kyle Busch ending up with his car upside down, he was ok. While Danica Patrick is often in the middle of these big wrecks, due to being in the wrong place within the pack or direct inolvement, she avoided both big wrecks this race. Only 17 cars finished on the lead lap and only 3 others were a lap behind on this rain shortened race day, as the cars only finished 112 of the 167 laps before the rain became too much which caused NASCAR to end the race, and since more than 1/2 the race were completed it made the results official.The victory went to Aric Almirola, who got his first win ever and did it in the #43 car, the one his team owner Richard Petty drove to so many victories in. While winning a shortened race isn't the way most would want to get their first win, everyone on the track new the race could end at any point following the midway mark of the race and Almirola had to fight past Kurt Busch late in the race.
We had no drivers from the top 5 and the only top 10 any of us had was Denny Hamlin, who had been picked by 3 of us.
Ozzz got his first HoF of the year, sharing it with Bx and srini just avoided his first spoon as it went to Howie this week, who can't seem to have luck on the superspeedways this year.
Srini's lead has been cut into as Bx pulled back into 2nd, 13 points behind srini and illiniman is holding strong 20 points behind, while George and Howie are still in striking distance.
Next race is next Sunday at New Hampshire.

The #12 car driven by Juan Pablo Montoya last week did not enter this week's race, much to Geroge95's dismay. This follows the #66 car not qualifying last week with Mike Greavey behind the wheel.
Who would have thought that it would be Pocono that would cause a huge shake-up in the standings, while there were no new highs or lows for the seasons, only Sypher and ozzz, who tied in weekly points for the second week in a row, despite only having one driver in common, the most picked by far driver of the year Brad Keselowski, held their positions from last week. Bx has found himself back at the front of the pack, illiniman is on his heels, srini is clinging to the podium for the moment, he also keeps his spoonless streak going just barely, and past winner gtho is back in hunt again. Bx holds an 18 point lead, the next three are only seperated by 17 points, with gtho and Howie looking to make big final runs less than 50 points out of podium position.
Next race is next Sunday at Watkins Glen.

The Ford's are on fire, not the bad kind when it's the engine, and they have moved gtho4 back up to 3rd place with back to back HoFs. Not having the luck of the proper fuel window at the end of the race tied an anchor to illiniman's team as some of his drivers slid back in the pack after racing near the front most of the day.

After having the biggest lead of anyone all season it was Bx's turn to have a bad week and it cost him as he dropped to third place with the spoon, HoF winner gtho moves back into the lead and srini into second. These top three drivers are only separated by four points, making this final season the most interesting of any following the restart of this competition. In recent years there has been one dominant driver who cruised to the title, but now as we enter the final third of the season it's tight at the top with George95 not far back, illiniman still in sight of the leaders and if gtho's run this past 4 races has proved anything, it's that no one is out at this point of the season.
The new format Chase begins in two weeks with Race 27.
Weeks 27 - 29 will be the Challenger round, begin with 16 drivers and the 4 drivers with the least amount of points after week 29 will be out of the Chase.
Weeks 30-32 will be the Contender round, begin with 12 drivers and the 4 drivers with the least amount of points after week 32 will be the next out of the Chase.
Weeks 33-35 will be the Eliminator Round, begin with 8 drivers and the 4 drivers with the least amount of points after week 35 will be cut from the Chase.
Week 36 will be the Sprint Cup Championship and the driver of the final 4 still in the Chase that finishes the race with the most points wins the Sprint Cup Championship.

That leaves two guaranteed spots for drivers to make it by points without a win, and four if drivers who already have wins go to victory lane in the last two races before the Chase. If any of the drivers with wins fall out of the top 30 in points, they would be left out of the Chase as well, opening up more spots for drivers to get in on points. Right now Aric Almirola is the lowest ranked driver with a win and is 24th in total points.

Tony Stewart was back on the track for the first time and while there was no incidents, he finished a dissapointing 41st.
The top of the ladder got shuffled again this week, with srini landing on top, Bx 14 points behind and gtho 17 points behind, while George is 36 points out of the lead.
Kevin Harvick dominated this race, usually battling Matt Kenseth for the lead. A bunch of late race cautions threw some of the most dominant cars back in the pack. The odd cautions started, centered around Joe Gibbs Racing cars, started wtih Denny Hamlin slowing down in the middle lane getting ready to pit forcing another driver to check up right into Brad Keselowski, who had been running in the top 5 for most of the race, and the damage to Keselowski's car took him out of the race. At this point Kasey Kahne took the lead from Kevin Harvick and looked like he was going to hold him off, when for an unknown reason Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. started tying it up on the race track, bumping each other in a not so polite manner which brough out another caution. This one had leaders Kahne and Harvick, and most cars, taking the regular 4 tires with 5 laps to go, but a few like Matt Kenseth, another Gibbs driver searching for his first win of the season, and Paul Menard took 2 and started in that order for the restart. Menard had a more than horrible restart and when Joey Logano, another driver consistently in the top 5 most of the day, pulled around Harvick due to the log jam Menard had caused, he ended up hitting Harvick who was also trying to get around Menard, bringing out another caution that would lead to a green white checkered finish. Kenseth on 2 tires started on the pole, Hamlin in the slower restarting top lane next to him and the determined Kasey Kahne right behind Kenseth. Matt tried to hold on but within the first lap Kasey had enough to get past him, squeak out the win and earn himself a spot in the Chase. Kenseth also earned a guaranteed spot on points, but he would much rather have had his first win of the season.
