 MLB 2014 Tipping CompWith spring training started, the MLB 2014 season will begin soon. The rules are as follows: 1. One point for a correct tip. You may tip home or away (there are NO ties in baseball - games go into extra innings to determine a winner, even if they play 18 or more total innings) 2. Deadlines are Friday midnight FT (6am* London, 10:30am India, 3pm* Sydney, 5pm* NZ) with a two hour period of grace. Stars are noted by places that DO observe daylight saving time. 3. There will be a one point deduction if tips are posted after the grace period. Default will be the higher of six points or Wooden Spoon score, and will be your score if you tip after the first game starts, which will be about 12 hours after deadline. Ex: Wooden Spoon score is seven, default is seven. Wooden Spoon score is five, default is six. Note: We will tip the Saturday games each week, excluding the final day of the season (Sun), and the Sunday/Monday games to equal 15 for the first week of the season. Bonus points: 1. One bonus point for picking a result solo, or one of two (12 minimum tippers to apply). 2. One bonus point if no more than two games are missed (one or two games may be postponed ( games may be postponed due to weather (rain or snow) in baseball) to earn this point). Three postponements or more do not earn a bonus. (i.e., 11+/13, 12+/14, 13+/15) The previous year's comp will determine next year's eligibility. 3. Tips of all homes or all homes bar one are ineligible for any bonus points. In case of Friday postponements, the FIRST of the Saturday games will be the one counted for our comp, as per MLB rule 4.13f. Sign up here if you are interested. Welcome to the 2014 MLB tipping season! We will have plenty of baseball action over the spring and summer. Trash talking is permitted, provided it stays within FT guidelines; trash talking the Yankees is still all but required  . I'll start that bill off this year by saying the lowly Astros beat them!!!
No new tippers this year, but five no-shows from last year: joecali, spanishliz, PaulE (again?), LeoDaVinci, and themonarch. Hope to see some of them over the course of the season.
Several low-scoring games, but it seems that the Ballpark in Arlington (I refuse to call it by its new name) is definitely a hitter's park! A total of 24 runs came across the plate in that game.
Five players pick up bonus points this week, with Dizart taking two himself.
**A reminder: any inactive tippers will continue to receive default scores weekly. If they are in last place and 2nd last is several points ahead, they will automatically default to the 2nd last score.
Another reminder: games can be postponed due to precipitation, so there may not always be 15 games scored.

Only two again score double digits (excluding bonus points) and both vault up the table or start mid-table (welcome back LDV - I didn't think you'd miss out on this one!  )
The Yankees lost again, so now in our comp they are 0-2. I hope they go 0-fer the whole season...every year lol.

Dizart again stays constant in third, and this week is again only one of two to retain his placing...the other is our leader, who has skipped out to a four point lead. The former also picks up his fourth bonus point of the young season. We as a whole stayed consistent as well, as we hit on approximately 52%...the margin of worst to best is a mere 1.03 percentage points. It also shows as the home to away ratio is near 1:1, at 48.889%.
Poor Leo didn't do so well, and fell from 5th to last. Srini701, on the other hand, did very well, and jumped to 2nd this week.
The Yankees couldn't do what I wanted, so now they need to go 1-fer for the season. You'd think the Dodgers would be hated for outspending the Yankees, but the Yankees will always be "The Evil Empire"!

Overall, a pretty good week, as we broke past that 60% barrier for the first time all season. Only one game had only five correct, and every other game was higher than that. However, no bonus points were awarded this week.
Maybe I need to go to Missouri a little more often...if the Yankees play like that when I am out of Texas...I'll do it!!!

Sypher took the first default of the season, but did not lose ground as the two behind him only scored six or seven. BxBarracuda took his first Spoon, but did not lose the top spot as srini only mustered six himself. Howie, on the other hand, did very well, and jumped to his highest position all season, joint with ozzz2002.
We barely kept our string of taking minimally half of the tips, by going 50.26%. Homes pulled away even further this week, as two-thirds of the home teams won. Three weeks ago, homes led roads 23-22...now the spread is homes +16!
The shallow air must have made Coors Field quite a hitting palace! The Mets scored ten, which in any of the other game would have won...they just played the only team that scored more than them. Four other teams scored nine...one of them wasn't Texas...but as long as the Rangers score seven, then Dallasites rejoice in another fashion (I'd rather they win AND score seven lol).

Srini701 was tired of trailing BxBarracuda, and he had had enough. He catapults four points past BxBarracuda.
What got into Arizona? They scored more runs by themselves than any other game combined, and you could combine as many as three games together and not get that number of runs!
Nine was the best score this week, taken by four, but on the flipside, dg_dave did not do well, and took a slight fall.

Ozzz2002 decides he wants a run at the top, and moves within three of the lead, despite having three Spoons to srini's four weekly wins, and no Spoons at present.
Sypher is probably scratching his head wondering why he didn't take the weekly win at 11...because LeoDaVinci pipped him with 12; these and ozzz2002's ten were the only double digit scorers this week, and it shows in our tips, as we missed on more than half for the second straight week. Fives and sixes seemed to be the most common, and 5/15 is only 33.333...%.
This was the first week in the last six that more road teams won, and we are near 58% on home wins, whereas in week 3, it was 51% homes.

What's happened in the last six weeks? Ozzz2002 keeps going out on a limb, and it has hit paydirt several times, as he's jagged five (yes, five!) bonus points in the last two weeks, to eclipse Dizart, whose held that lead for awhile.
A few more spots are filling in, as there is only one now without a weekly win, and two are still Spoonless...how long will those go? Three players are still looking for their first bonus point. Everyone has at least one award.
BxBarracuda and srini701 played leapfrog, with BxB taking a five point lead, and ozzz2002 decided to leap over srini too, but 12 bonus points will do that.
One thing that has not gone well is the tipping...we cannot seem to break 60%, even though it is a 5:4 ratio of home to away. It has been eight weeks since we hit 60+%, and we've only done it twice in 15 weeks. This year has been somewhat unpredictable, as no one is too far under .500 (worst is .407), nor is but one team above .600 overall...blast those Oakland A's!  May they have a ten game losing streak!
**A reminder: any inactive tippers will continue to receive default scores weekly. If they are in last place and 2nd last is several points ahead, they will automatically default to the 2nd last score.
Another reminder: games can be postponed due to precipitation, so there may not always be 15 games scored.
