1. N-Bomb 2. paper_aero 3. Howie72
*- paper_aero beat Howie72 on a tiebreaker on their fifth golfers: Charl Schwartzel has a 298 and Patrick Reed had a 304
**- Sypher was disqualified for choosing 3 of the top 10: Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Sergio Garcia. He would have finished tied for 8th.
For the second year in a row, the winner of the Masters was not chosen by the winner of this comp, as N-Bomb romped to victory despite not taking the low score of Bubba Watson. However, he did take young phenom Jordan Spieth who finished tied for second. paper_aero and Howie72 tied for second, with paper_aero taking advantage of Bubba – but they were decided by way of their fifth picks, and paper’s fifth Charl Schwartzel scored 6 shots better than Howie’s fifth Patrick Reed.
N-Bomb had the strategy of choosing some unexpected golfers for previous majors (looking at Graham DeLaet, Alex Noren, Marcel Siem), but went for 4 big names and a young star this time around and took the gold. Well done!
The Masters lost a little potential drama the week before the tournament started, as #1-ranked Tiger Woods withdrew due to back surgery. It looked like there would be no shortage of drama moving into the final day with Watson, Spieth, Jonas Blixt, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Rickie Fowler, and Matt Kuchar all tied for or within 2 of the lead, but ultimately Watson had no real threat in the final holes.
Bubba Watson had a little stress early on in the day. He came in tied with Spieth at -5, but watched the youngster birdie #2, Watson bogeyed #3, and while waiting for a birdie putt on #4, watched as Spieth chipped in for a birdie on #4. Three strokes down, he put in the birdie putt and proceeded to birdie 3 of the final 5 holes on the front nine. After a Spieth bogey on #12 and a Watson birdie on #13, he held a 3-stroke lead, and they played even all the way out, giving Bubba his second green jacket in three years.
Spieth made an early run, grabbing a 2-stroke lead at -8 by #7. However, consecutive bogeys to finish the front nine and a +1 back nine left him unable to really threaten the lead. Blixt played one of the most consistent rounds on Sunday, earning only 1 bogey and 2 birdies, but due to that lack of movement, stayed at -4 or -5 most of the day and finished at -5 while Bubba was breaking away. Jimenez entered Sunday at -3, but exited the front nine at -1. Despite 4 birdies on the back nine, he finished at -4 and was never a serious threat.
Kuchar looked to be making an early move, birdieing #2 and #3, but a double bogey on #4 and a bogey on #9 left him at 3-under, and bogeying the final two holes put him tied for 5th at -2. Fowler found himself out of contention after bogeying #10 and #11 out of the gate on the back nine, sending him to -1, where he would only recover back to -2 tied with Kuchar.
The only common thread between the three podium finishers was last year’s Masters champion Adam Scott, who finished at +1. Scott was the most-chosen golfer, with 8/13 choosing him. No one chose Jonas Blixt, Miguel Angel Jimenez or Rickie Fowler, while only N-Bomb and LeoDaVinci chose Jordan Spieth, only Howie72 took Matt Kuchar, and Lee Westwood was only chosen by 3 tippers. Plenty of low scores were available for much of the field.
The U.S. Open will be held June 12-15 at Pinehurst No. 2; hope to see you there!

Good ol' Jordan Spieth! Time to stop with taking random longshots one feels, seems to be successful.
