"When I was young..." smile

We still get good service here from our post office, they even have a system whereby if you are vulnerable they check on you.

This is from the website about the service...

"Posties knock on the door of those people who have signed up to the scheme on a regular basis, depending on the frequency requested by the customer. The postie will check that everything is alright and ask whether the individual has any immediate needs or issues. Anything that is reported will be passed on to one of the relevant partner organisations for them to respond appropriately.

All posties on the scheme will have had an appropriate police check. They are not intended to be health carers or medical workers, rather will be a bridge between the individual and the experts, a familiar and smiling face to let people know they are being checked on."

A postie just delivered a parcel to me and didn't bat an eyelid when in turn I handed him a letter to be mailed! smile

I think it can sometimes feel like 12,000 miles when cycling against the wind. smile

This is something that came up before, where the guy calculated that he could lose a ton of weight sitting on a bar stool drinking whiskey on the rocks because of the "calories" required to raise the temperature of 32º whiskey to 98.6º body temperature. What he didn't know was that the "calories" in food are actually kilocalories, or 1000 times more than the calorie used in science class. The kilocalorie in food is often capitalized as Calorie to distinguish it from the calorie of science. My two cents.

And two tablespoons in coffee-scoop
And eight coffee-scoops in a cup

And forty rods in a furlong
And eight furlongs in a mile
And 100 links in a chain
And four rods in a chain (!)

And eight dry quarts in a peck
And two pecks in a kenning
And two kennings in a bushel

etc.
