srini701 Star Poster Registered: Wed Jan 04 2006 Posts: 11527 Loc: Hyderabad, India	French Open 2014 The second Grand Slam tournament of the year kicks off on the red clay of Roland Garros from Sunday, May 25 and goes on till June 8. Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova for the women's title in 2013, while rank outsider and upstart Rafael Nadal (who???) won the men's title defeating David Ferrer in straight sets (the nerve of this man!)...apparently it was Nadal's 8th French Open title in 9 appearances! 11 people took part in our FT tipping comp last year, and gtho4 and srini701 won the titles. Other than Elftwinkle in 2007 and 2008 men's section, nobodyhas ever retained their titles in either section in the 9 years this comp has been organised! Can gtho4 and srini try and do the impossible? or will it be your turn in 2014? Sign up here if you'd like to take part. Tipping threads go up soon as the draws are announced. Maria Sharapova won her 2nd French Open title in 3 years, coming up the hard way. She went the distance in each of her last 3 matches and still won!
Simona Halep and Eugenie Bouchard had dream runs to supplement their Australian Open showing, and they promise to be the next big things in the women's game for some time to come.
We endured a miserable competition with nobody getting even 50% tips right. With most of the big players falling early, our predictions took a huge beating and it was the pick of Andrea Petkovic, which finally decided our podium
Howie72 had Petkovic (and for good measure, Carla Suarez Navarro too) in his picks, and they help him scoop this year's women's title ahead of paper_aero, who had the most correct tips amongst us!
Dizart also picked Petkovic and that helps him claim the bronze medal in our comp here.
At the other end, N-Bomb had just 1 right tip, but beating him to the basement with a grand golden spoon score of 0 is BxBarracuda He earns himself a place in the record books for his commendable feat!

With sincere apologies to Leo for posting these...
We fared a llllooootttt better in the men's section compared to the women's The whole world knows nobody beats Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros (Robin Soderling was a freak!) and he duly won his 9th French Open title in 10 attempts. Novak Djokovic will continue to search for the one Slam title that will complete his collection, till Nadal retires
None of us picked the run of the maverick Latvian Ernests Gulbis here, so the next maverick pick was the one that made the difference to our standings. Gael Monfils managed to slide his way to the quarters and 4 of us had him in our picks!
Missing ONLY the pick of Gulbis (and Nadal as winner), George95 wins the 2014 Men's comp here with a whopping 84/129 points and 12/15 right picks!
Finishing second with the same number of right tips but 3 points less than G95 was Howie72, who failed to pick Raonic in his side. Howie has the consolation of being the only tipster to finish on podium in both sections of the 2014 French Open!
N-Bomb rounded out the podium and luckily for him the tie-break did not come into question We did have to use the tie-break to separate 4 others in positions after that!
ozzz2002 takes the spoon with *only* 6 right tips....that was the most tips we had in the women's side of the draw, which tells you how much more steady the men's game is these days compared to the women's
