Didn't we talk about how some folks aren't aware of the danger they pose to themselves and then to first responders when they do things such as getting close enough to take the linked photo of a twister starting to come down? This link is through the Palm Beach Post, a reputable newspaper so it should be free of malware.

Well, in this case, the photos were taken by stormchasers who are generally well aware of the dangers, and take precautions. Much of the data about violent storms comes from these professionals who 'chase' specifically to record data that is otherwise unavailable. This is different than the 'Gee whiz, Martha, do you think I should take a picture?' people who should be dividing for cover rather than taking selfies with a tornado in the background.

Sorry, I think the stormchaser father and son who died last year did this work constantly. We use robotic vehicles on distant celestial bodies to collect data. It is foolish to not follow the same scientific method on our own planet, Send in the drones not thrill seeking 'I do science' guys and gals.

No doubt many of those considered "stormchasers" are responsible people.

But I can't help remembering the 2009 "Balloon Boy" case, in which the father was so desperate to be a celebrity that he said his little son was inside a large weather balloon that traveled for miles before coming down. (The child had actually been hidden in the attic.) That man had been trying to get his family a television deal as stormchasers, in hopes of achieving fame and fortune.
