perfect picks
other bonus pts
dead-heats

plus points for the seeding.
if you forget, the spoon score is all yours (ineligible for bonus pts).
if you pick a game solo (or one of two), you score a bonus point.
of 8/8 score a bonus point, plus a knighthood from Her Majesty.
no one picks a win, whoever picks a draw.
no one picks a draw, whoever picks the upset win.
weekly wins vs. spoons countback determine podium finishes;
if they're identical, bonus pts will be used.
is always kick-off in the first game of the round. If you miss the deadline, you score default. | The tipping comp will run over 10 rounds with 8 pts up for grabs each
round, plus seedings. The defending
titleholder from the 2010 comp is Howie72 and themonarch was
runner-up (PaulE finished third). This is the 4th edition of the World Cup tipping comp. 2002 Stevo_fun oleg_mcnoleg silverginger 2006 Howie72 LeoDaVinci halfbakedangi 2010 Howie72 themonarch PaulE Howie72 is looking at a unique hat-trick of three consecutive gold medals across 8 years, if he wins this again! Who's up for the
4th edition of the World Cup tipping comp?

Yes I'll be there - I'm in, just hope it actually goes ahead, what with all the unfinished stadiums, strikes, riots etc - I understand that is part of the tipping, match abandoned because of...

Some things to note about Mondial Brasil 2014 through the first eight games: - 1-0, the most common scoreline in international soccer, is obviously not an option unless you have goals [wrongly] disallowed. - Neither is settling for a draw. - Winning is much easier if you concede the first goal. - Officiating is always criticized, but, this year, it's often justified.

. There were 23 starters in the barriers when they opened, one more the 22 who lodged picks 4 years ago for South Africa 2010 .. eight are newbies. This is a record field for a World Cup tipping comp here at FT (we had 15 runners in 2002 and 18 in 2006). Is the record field here to witness Howie72 winning his third straight title? lol
We have 15 survivors from the previous comp, back for another dose, seven no-shows, and eight newbies. The no-shows: MrFox, aya3098, DanielPoulsen, Davjack, JaneMarple, Toffees & triviapaul. The new runners: Dizart, George95, kevinatilusa, MrsKrivoyRog, Lpez, N-Bomb, Snowman and wwe84.
A special welcome to MrsKrivoyRog, Snowman and Lpez .. this is their first tipping comp! Lpez failed to jump when the barriers opened, and receives default for the first round.
Of those 15 survivors only 2 played 12 years ago in the 2002 edition: gtho4 and Sypher. These two players have been here so long they've got no idea where the keys are to get out. Ask the manager of a 7-11 store if he or she knows where the front-door keys are .. they've got no idea either!
Please note that with a mammoth field of 23 runners, bonus points for solo picks has been extended from solo or one of two, to solo or one of four.
kevinatilusa hit the ground running when the starter fired his gun, and has blown us all away to jump to a two point lead. He picked 6/8 .. he missed the win by Mexico (we all missed the loss by Uruguay). PaulE and illiniman14 also picked 6/8 (they both missed the loss by Spain).
At the other end, four players collected a wooden spoon each with picks of 2/8.
There were three bonus pts .. kevinatilusa & themonarch consulted their Ouija Board and picked Spain, the reigning World and European Champions, to lose. They didn't lose, they were thumped 5-1 (and they scored first). The other bonus point was the loss by Uruguay. No-one picked it, but KrivoyRog picked a draw for a bonus point.
The last time Spain conceded 5 goals in a match was 51 years ago to the day, when they lost 2-6 in Madrid to Scotland on 13th June 1963. They scored first in that match as well.
That's 8 of 64 games behind us .. the next round is less than 24 hours away, and the World Cup final is 28 days away. |

. ozzz2002 is this round's winner with stupendous picks of 7/8. He picked the entire card except for the win by the USA! He's now one point off the podium.
LeoDaVinci and paper_aero collect a wooden spoon each with 2/8; and fall to the bottom of the table.
There were just two bonus pts .. ozzz2002 and Lpez picked Mexico to hold hosts Brazil to a draw. Lpez is understandable as that's home base, but what was ozzz2002 thinking? lol
At the top of the table the podium spots have the same occupants, but they've swapped positions .. kevinatilusa slips to third place, illiniman14 has taken over front-running duties and PaulE retains second spot. George95 and Sypher also kept their spot, but the rest of us (that's 20 of us) moved up or down a spot or two, or six .. or eleven! The standings now have ½ pts as we had our first draw.
That's it for this round of the tipping comp, as I'm late for work (it's 8:00am here). I'll double check the points late tonight as this post has been a little rushed (but they should be aok). Tonight I'm off to watch NSW wallop Queensland, then it's off to bed and up at 2:00am to watch Australia thrash the Netherlands, ha ha |
