But do you ever hear someone say they birthed in it? Or how tired they felt during birthing?

That's all I got in this Robin Williams memorial rant.

Just semi-rigorous.

lol. Rigor mortis in humans lasts only about 24 hours Chaz, so no worries.
Interesting memorial though mehaul.

Still can't believe Robin is dead. Some stars shine too brightly I suppose.

The best quote about birthing?

I believe that remorse for the past or fear of the future will take any one of us out Here was a person deeply loved by the whole world and grief is very personal.

Miss Scarlett answers " Well kind sir Aye is one that found out the hard way.

Please can you remove this from the database, it's spelt barbecue and there are no alternative spellings, thanks!

I wonder if this is like the "try and" versus "try to" debate - we may have to admit that the language has already changed to accept the new spelling, it is only our dictionaries and grammarians who have yet to catch up. ?

Good point, but I am wondering (in my lifetime anyway) if a misspelling has ever become accepted before, and more so to the level of being added in a dictionary. That is a precedent, and only one step from removing a distinction between its and it's and their, they're and there. It's the logical progression and better they should have left that door closed, as otherwise more like embarassed, neccessary, and ought of will start to follow. Most people over 50 or so would be disgusted to see what they spent years being taught at school being slowly unravelled as the authorities have finally thrown in the towel and decided to follow rather than lead society. That is a very poor precedent in my eyes.

I'm not sure where to post this as the issue seems to have cropped up in multiple places but... firstly, spellings do change over the years or we'd still be speaking in Middle English about the Faerie Queene. Secondly the spelling of many words varies according to country and it's a long time since I got seriously irate about leaving out a 'u', changing a 'c' to an 's' or vice versa. And thirdly, the links posted by Chavs are interesting but those are not dictionaries which set spelling standards either in the UK or USA. They are internet sources cobbled together from any old place including Princeton which has a database of words online but which allows its students to type any word into it including words they clearly can't spell correctly. The Free Dictionary gets words from that database; save the moral outrage for them and for Princeton, and hope that the OED and Webster's stand fast.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/barbeque and http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/barbecue both list "barbeque" as a variant.

I know words like irregardless (and my spell checker doesn't even yell at that) are listed as nonstandard or something similar.

Maybe apostrophised plurals will follow... Or should I say 'plural's'?
