I hate it that I drove through Ohio so many times on our job and didn't stop to see him. I hate it that he suffered so much these last few years. I thank God that he was here and a friend to all that came his way. And I'm glad that he's out of pain now. He will be missed in so many ways. RIP

Was wondering where he had had been the last few days, didn't realise this had happened until I saw the thread Santana started in chain games. RIP mate, nobody should have to suffer what you have courageously borne over the last few years.

Awfully sad news -- truly a wonderful man, and I was always in awe at the way he took his ill fortune in stride and with humor. Rest in peace Gatsby.

Such sad news, especially for one still so young. I did not know David but his presence on the site was prominent and the heartfelt tributes seen here testify to the wonderful, courageous person he must have been.

Very sorry, I only found out about the cancer last week and was especially surprised as he'd still been posting here as if he was fine and didn't let anything get to him from day one of his earlier illness. We often used to chat and he offered me a lot of support when I first arrived here, and had been one of the backbones of the site as long as I remember, always seeming to keep up with diverse threads all over, doing his staff roles and for many years suffering with all sorts of illness and sharing it originally on his old blog. I will really miss him, rest in peace Dave.

For one so young, to have endured so much, may you rest in peace.

Oh,wow....I am stunned...Gatsby suffered more adversity in his life that most of us will ever have to deal with, and was always cheerful and encouraging to any of us who seemed to have a problem. The forums will surely miss him..

I'm so sad to see this. Gatsby hand held me through the basics of the chain games and some other games we used to have when I first joined. He was always so kind and nice to newbies and regulars alike. FT will surely miss having someone like him around who knew how to correct someone who went out of line without being rude or hurtful. RIP, Gatsby.

He was a true gentleman and a very sweet man. He made me smile and laugh and just enjoy knowing him.
I as so sorry that he will no longer be with us but as others have stated here he isn't in pain anymore and we will each have our memories of him to cherish.
I hope Gunslinger meets him with a cup of Coffee.
R.I.P. Dave. I shall miss you.

I didn't know him, but wished I had. He sounds like a lovely human being.

No more pain now, just sleep.

He definitely had a hard path to travel, with more than his fair share of pain. Hopefully he will have an easier life next go round, if there is one!

I didn't have any personal connection with Dave and yet I felt I knew him. His warmth, his humour and his courage were evident in his thoughtful posts. R.I.P. Gats; you will be sadly missed.

I have been away for a few weeks due to computer problems, and am devastated to just now learn of Dave's passing. He was my mentor from my first day at FT, and I know he was there for many others in the same capacity. I truly cannot imagine the Chain Games without him. What a trooper he was!

I don't know if we have any members in Ohio, and more specifically within reach of North Canton. There is to be a small memorial service for David on Friday 18th July and it would be wonderful if someone could attend to represent Funtrivia.com.

If there is anyone then please contact me for more details.

Many thanks.

I've been looking for an obituary since his passing, and have been unable to find one.

An obituary and guest book are available.

David Elkins at the Canton paper - go to www.cantonrep.com click on the obituary tab and then go to David Allen Elkins - that takes you to his obit and then they have share a memory/light a candle or something....click that and write what you wish.
