Thank you all very much for your warm welcome and for the elaborate answers. I agree, it is a wild geranium. The expert I asked for an answer told me it must be from the geranium family. They were very common there in the wilderness, around my grandparents' house, since I was a child. I will post only a few more photos that seem to be more interesting to me among those I have captured in the last 6 years. This one is an impressive sunrise from my window, in October of November 2009, when I did not fix the date on my camera, as usual.

This tub of geraniums survived winter and has been in spectacular full bloom since about April. Shows just how mild our winter was last year.

As this is the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1, seems like a good opportunity to post
this one. I took it at the Imperial War museum in London, it's a mock up of a typical trench as
would have been used during the campaign in France and Belgium. The photo was a little
rushed - I had a queue of people behind me - but it didn't come out too bad in the
circumstances!

I loved the War Museum in London - thanks for the memory jog! It's a long time ago now but they had a replica street through the blitz. the whole thing was great, very well done.

On the weekend I'm doing a three day hike in the Blue Mountains out from Sydney. I am packed and ready to go (and I'm ignoring the weather reports that are mentioning snow for Thursday)

After the last photo of Tuhawaiki (Jacks) Point and the lighthouse I did threaten to post a photo zoomed in on the lighthouse from the same spot at South Beach so here it is....the quality is not very good.

A little park I just found in Elstree when I had to stop short as the main road was closed.

I'm off for a few days on my hike so I hope I have lots of different pics to share when I'm back. It's been good joining in again - didn't realise how much I had missed posting!

I think you are going to need more gear- did you pack an electric blanket? It has been cold down here on the flat bit- the pointy bits will be much worse.

I only have to carry the daypack The company take the sleeping bag and overnight bag plus they are providing an extra sleeping bag for everyone and a stretcher to get us off the ground as they know it's going to be so cold at night. But it's all good ... character building even

You'd wonder about the kind of people that organise these things in July though, huh?

Not THAT sort of stretcher, Ren! A stretcher bed is basically a fold up bed used when camping.

Admittedly these are not wild dolphins - but the display at Sea World at Surfer's Paradise is truly incredible. They were leaping 4-5 m in the air. Often 2 or 3 in unison.
