Ray Ewry. Events: Standing High Jump, Standing Broad Jump, Standing Hop, Step and Jump. This is a little scary, I actually knew the name and two of the events off the top of my head. Then I looked it up, and saw that I was right. I have no idea when or how I learned this information, but somehow it stuck in there. The human mind is a fantastic and mysterious thing, don't you think?

I'll go again.

This sporting legend held the World One-Mile Land Speed Record longer than any other person. Who is he? And bonus; When, where and how did he die?

Tim, the capacity of the human mind never ceases to amaze me.

Your answer is correct, Ewry was confined to a wheelchair as a child because of polio. He started jumping in an attempt to build up the strength in his legs and these events were perfect for him.

..........

Now onto your question,

Many land speed record holders have died whilst attempting to break the water record. There was John Cobb, Major Henry Seagrove and Malcolm Campbell.

I think it was probably Campbell who held the record longest, but I'm not really sure.

If that's right Tim, I'm afraid I have no question ready and have to log off shortly, so go again.

OK so I'll give a question out:

His qualities sound like a checklist of any and all the talents required of a footballer. Tall and strong, yet speedy and blessed with limitless stamina, two-footed, a great tackler, strong in the air, a fine passer of the ball, and the possessor of a fierce and accurate shot. He could play in defence, midfield or attack. Quite simply, he didn't have a weakness.
Born in 1936 and died in 1958, recognised as one of the best players in the world at his tme and had he not died at such a tragically young age, would have gone on to become one of the all-time greats.
He made his debut aged 16 and made his England debut aged 18, the youngest player to ever play for England.
Who was this man who took the soccer world by storm at a young age??

This sportsman took the world by storm when he won 3 gold medals in front of his home crowd.

He went on to win a staggering 6 golds at the following World Championships.

izz.......

Yer 4-legged sporting legend would be Red Rum and the jockey was either Brian Fletcher or Tommy Carmody?

One partnered Rum in 73, 74? and the other in 77.

I'm going for Carmody???

Tommy Stack was the jockey. Was he Irish or English, by your definition?

What driver holds the record for highest speed attained in a stock car, (NASCAR), at 212.58 mph.

At what track did he reach this speed.

You are correct sir.
After that year we were blessed (?)with restrictor plate races at Talladega, and Daytona.

This also leads to some spectacular multi car wrecks at these tracks.
