-The first major battle of the American Civil War, The Battle of Bull Run, in Manassas, Virginia took place in 1861.
-Wild Bill Hickock shoots David Tutt in the first western showdown in 1863.
-Jesse and the James-Younger Gang pull off the first successful train robbery in the Old West in 1865.
-Willis Carrier creates the first air conditioner in 1902.
-Louis Rigolly becomes the first man to break the 100 mph barrier in 1904.
-Sir Malcolm Campbell breaks the 150 mph barrier in 1925.
-Elijah Green becomes the first African-American to play for the Boston Red Sox, the last team to integrate, in 1959.
-Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin become the first to walk on the moon in 1969 (July 20 in North America).
-The world's lowest temperature in an inhabited location is recorded at Vostok Station, Antarctica in 1983 (-128.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is published in 2007. It sells 15 million copies within a day of its release.
-NASA's space shuttle program concludes with the landing of Atlantis in 2011.

-Alexander McKenzie reaches the Pacific Ocean in the first successful transcontinental crossing of Canada in 1793.
-The first motor race is held between Paris and Rouen in 1894. The winner was Albert Lemaitre.
-Wiley Post becomes the first person to fly solo around the world, flying 15,596 miles in seven days, 18 hours and 45 minutes in 1933.
-John Dillinger, "Public Enemy No. 1", is mortally wounded by FBI agents outside of Chicago's Biograph Theatre in 1934.
-The second Blue Water Bridge opens between Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia, Ontario in 1997.

-The Province of Canada is created by the Act of Union in 1840.
-The Ford Motor Company sells its first car in 1903.
-In Bombay, the first station of the Indian Broadcasting Company goes on the air in 1927.
-Telstar relay the first publicly transmitted, live trans-Atlantic television program, featuring Walter Cronkite, in 1962.
-Comet Halle-Bopp is discovered in 1995. It becomes visible to the naked eye on Earth. about a year later.

I am afraid I agree with Flopsy These sorts of posts are not really about the world around us which would ask you to post pieces of information that the member has found , not cut and pasted from the likes of Google.
