This year's edition of the FLC comp runs for almost 9 months over 46 rounds from the start of next month, Saturday 9th August 2014, until the first week of May next year, Saturday 2nd May 2015. This is one week shorter than last year's comp, when The Football League extended that season to a full 9 months by starting a week earlier. This is till th elongest comp run here at FT in terms of number of rounds, but is no longer the longest in expired time from start to finish. That honour will belong to the FAPL and FT-PL comps, as The FA have extended the Premier League through to the end of May!

The FAPL will start a week later on Saturday 16th August, but will now finish on Sunday 24th May. This extension, and the move back to the FA Cup Final being played at the end of the season, has the 2014 FA Cup Final scheduled for Saturday 30th May! Gone are the days when the Cup Final was the first Ssaturday in May, and th eleague season finshed the week before.

There are no changes to the rules .. they're the same as last year:

    		 one point for each correct pick .. home win, draw, away win.
    if you forget to pick, the away teams are all yours; but if the wooden
    spoon score is more, you receive the WS score.
    if you pick a game solo, you score a bonus pick .. or 1 of 2 players if we
    have more than 12 runners, or 1 of 3 if we have more than 18 runners.
    10/12 or higher receives two bonus picks (plus a knighthood from Her
    Majesty); and 8/12 or 9/12 scores one bonus pick.
    no one picks win, whoever picks a draw;
    no one picks draw, whoever picks the upset win.
    weekly wins vs. wooden spoons countback determine podium finishes;
    if the differential is the same, it's most weekly wins; if they're identical,
    then bonus picks will be used.
    bonus picks are worth ˝ pt each. If you pick all home teams (or all bar
    one) or you're running default, you're ineligible for bonus picks.

The year before last we had a field of 20 runners .. 17 came back for another dose, and three were MIA -- ren33 (having a rest), trev1 (no show) and szabs (no show). We failed to snare or entrap a newbie. This year there are two no-shows, KrivoyRog and LeoDaVinci, giving us a field of 15 runners and, again, we failed to snare a newbie.

paper_aero, the defending titleholder, starts the new season in the bottom half of the table. Sypher, the silver medallist last year, is in equal first place. There were *seven* weekly winners (just under half the field), and just the one wooden spoon. With an avalanche of bonus picks we have just three players in a share of the lead .. everyone except two scored a ˝ pt bonus pick.

Between us we averaged 1.07 bonus picks each. That's our 7th best-ever effort (see FLC Record Book in the post above this one) .. illiniman14 is still looking for his first wooden spoon. He extends his spoon-less streak to 63 weeks.

That's one down. We have another 45 laps until we greet the judges at the finish post .. in May 2015!

Last week we had a triple dead-heat out front. None of them retained their position. FussBudget leap-frogged all three of them. He scored 8/12 for weekly win and a bonus pick, plus another one for a solo pick. They're his first for the season, leaving Dizart as the only player with a blank in that column.

We had five wooden spoons this week .. two of them were by last week's winners, aka they have completed both columns.

It's starting to look like a re-run. Last year, after three weeks, FussBudget was in the lead with a margin of 3 pts. This year, after three weeks, FussBudget is again in the lead .. by 3 pts. Howie72 was running second and paper_aero (the defending titleholder) was ˝ point in arrears in third place. FussBudget relinquished the lead after week 22 and then finished-off the season in week 46 off the podium.

With seven of the 12 games ending in an away win, we were all scratching for points this week .. two games were picked by no-one and two more were solo picks by dg_dave and LeoDaVinci. PaulE somehow managed to pick 7/12 for the weekly win .. and he lodged all of his picks before the season started! Next best was a distant 5/12.

Three players collected a wooden spoon each; and each was a back-to-back wooden spoon (which matches the spoons earnt by srini701 in weeks one and two).
