N-Bomb edged closer to paper_aero with a weekly win. The first two have now put 5 pts between themselves and the peleton. The other weekly winner was wwe84.
In a round of upsets, there were five wooden spoons awarded this week, for picks of just 2/12 .. illiniman14 was caught in the wash and collected a wooden spoon after 91 weeks (that's a week short of two years).

Wonders will never cease. This one is for the true believers: 0-1 Middlesbrough v Leeds United. Leeds scored in the third minute from a terrible kick by the Boro keeper. Nine minutes of injury time were excruciating (the game was broadcast live downunder).
They've now played at the Riverside Stadium 13 times since Boro moved there 20 yrs ago from Ayresome Park and have lost just once, on 12th Feb 2013. This was their 5th win. |

At the other end of the spectrum wwe84 collects his 4th straight spoon with 3/12, to join ozzz2002 with 11 spoons each. The FLC rounds just keep on comin' .. this is the 5th round of picks over the last 14 days.
dg_dave is this round's winner with 7/12, his 7th weekly win for the season. No-one has more wins than dg_dave and N-Bomb .. and he was the only person who rose up the ladder. The rest of us stayed where we were, or fell.
wwe84 missed his 5th straight spoon. He was caught in a pincer movement by Sypher and BxBarracuda, who scored 3/12 and a wooden spoon .. which stopped wwe84 having his name entered in the FT Record Book.
After 36 weeks we've had 67 wooden spoons awarded and an identical number of weekly wins .. and exactly ˝ the field have a points score that ends with a ˝ point. In other words, everything is in balance, aka the debits equals the credits. Surely this is an accountant's nirvana.
paper-aero and N-Bomb continue to lead the way. They've been 1st or 2nd for 17 consecutive weeks. That completes week 36 .. we still have 10 rounds left!

Last week's wooden spooners had mixed fortunes this week. Sypher scored another to make it back-to-back spoons and BxBarracuda joined ozzz2002 as this round's weekly winner (these two players and LeoDaVinci occupy the bottom three rungs of the ladder).
BxBarracuda was the only payer who moved up in the rankings.
paper_aero extends his lead out front for the third straight week. It's now out to 5 points, which is the biggest lead since N-Bomb was 6 points in front of paper_aero some 16 weeks ago. They've been 1st or 2nd for the last 18 weesk.
We have yet another mid-week round coming up in a few days: FLC [ 38 ] Tue 17th March, which will make it seven rounds in a mere 24 days.
We're approaching the final turn into the home straight. That's 37 down and nine more until we stumble across the finish post in this marathon.
Anyone of five teams will hold up FLC trophy at the end of the season as champions, or win promotion to the FAPL .. and anyone of three teams will take the 6th spot and qualify for the play-offs. gtho4 scores his second weekly win for the season (his first was 37 weeks ago, in week one). Last week no-one had fewer weekly wins than gtho4; that's still the case this week.
There were five wooden spoons this week .. it was back-to-back for Howie72, number two for our leader paper-aero (his first was way back in week 8), while wwe84 & ozzz2002 each collected their 12th. They're leading the Spoon Stakes, by a country mile.
paper_aero is still leading .. his margin over N-Bomb has been reduced by one to 4 points. They have now been either 1st or 2nd for 20 consecutive weeks.
Joint leaders Watford and Middlesbrough both lost, which allows Bournemouth to jump up into the lead solo (it was a triple dead-heat between these three clubs two weeks ago). If Bournemouth do play in the the FAPL next season, it'll be their debut appearance in the top tier of English football.
The club was formed in 1899, as Boscombe FC. They were renamed Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1923, upon their election to The Football League, to Division Three (South). For the next 64 years they played in the bottom Divisions of The Football League until they won their first-ever promotion to Division Two (now FLC), in 1987; they lasted three seasons. It's a crowded podium this week .. seven weekly winners and one wooden spoon (which adds up to half the field). With just one round left, paper_aero is all but .. he's still seven pts ahead. N-Bomb will need a miracle to stop paper_aero retaining his title (the first to do so), and becoming the first player to win this comp three times. This year's comp is the 9th edition.
The other two spots on the podium will go to two of these three: N-Bomb, Sypher (who's won this twice) and Dizart (who won this two years ago). The three of them are separated by 4˝ pts.
wwe84 scored two more bonus picks to bring his tally to 56 for the season. He's having a good bash at the FLC record .. the all-time record is 59, set last year by ozzz2002.
Watford have won promotion to the Premier League, and Bournemouth is all but guaranteed a promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history after scoring a 3-0 victory over Bolton .. they need to lose by 10 goals away to Charlton Athletic in their last match, and Middlesbrough need to win their last match by 10 goals, to miss automatic promotion. At the other end, which two of the three teams above Blackpool will join them in League One next season? paper_aero has won this marathon, again. He's the first defending titleholder to retain his title (this is the 9th edition of the FLC comp) & the first to win this three times (his first was back in 2010-11). He hit the lead in week 23, at the half-way mark, and kept it all the way to the finish post (except wk 34). He set a cracking pace for the last seven wks of the comp .. no-one could stay with him. He increased his lead in every one of those seven weeks bar one.
FussBudget was the early season leader. He lost the lead after week 5 and from there faded to finish in 7th place .. dg_dave was then leader for one week, and next was Sypher, who took over front-running duties in week 7. The last time he was leader was week 18. N-Bomb was next. His first week as leader was week 16 (and his last was wk 34) .. Sypher then faded to drop off the podium, replaced by Dizart and then Howie 72. Sypher returned to 3rd in wk 34 and from there we had no change at the top. That's how it finished when we greeted the judges.
As for the rest of us .. we fell over the line, exhausted and gasping for air. maybe some of us are sprinters who simply can't last the distance.
wwe84 won the end-of-season Rheem HWS Award. Rheem gives you hot water in an instant. No-one had more weekly wins that wwe84 and no-one had more wooden spoons. He also won the Lotto Award for the most bonus picks .. he fell one short of breaking the all-time record of 59 bonus picks. | Football League Championship

First and second are promoted to the FAPL and 3rd to 6th play-off for the third promotion spot. The bottom three are relegated to League One. Rotherham United deducted 3 pts for fielding an ineligible player. | Ipswich Town lost but survived to join Norwich and Middlesbrough in the playoffs. Brentford won to take their spot. With those two results, Wolves needed to win by six clear goals, but only won 4-2.
The huge disappointment was Derby Co. They blew it big time. They were leading the FLC after 33 wks and looked a shoe-in to make it to the FAPL or the playoffs with just 15 rounds left (see table at right). |

Derby were still in it on the final day, despite their disastrous end-of-season run .. as long as they didn't lose (a draw was enough). They went behind after just 2 minutes at home to Reading (beaten by lowly Rotherham mid-week) and it was all down hill from there. They chased it but couldn't find the equaliser. They conceded two more goals. Rotherham stayed up with that mid-week win against Reading, which finalised the three going down before the last round started.
Congratulations to the three medallists, and commiserations to the rest of us; there's always next year. We start another 46 laps in early August!
