I love that photo flopsy! The swirling pattern emanating from the centre of the flower reminds met yet again of the symmetries of nature hidden everywhere.

Thanks, Mike. I also liked the swirls, and if you look (which I'm sure you did) you see how many swirls you can see all at once and all starting from the same place. It's rather like one of those Victorian visual experiments only more complicated.

Just remember, that no matter how small and insignificant you may think you are, you're never too small to help a flower.

Until 2003 Britain was a free country, then we had to pay to drive into London, first the centre and then the west, which was repealed when we got a new mayor. But when I got my digital camera in 2005 an entire area was effectively blocked from use besides weekends and summer evenings, and the trains cost almost as much so a total waste of money either way. So the rare times I get in at the weekend it's almost like going abroad as the chances are so few and far between. I just squeaked in today as I had to go round the block as there was no right turn. What people do during the week when wanting to go right from Lisson Grove to Marylebone is a mystery to me, as otherwise you'd either need to know where to turn off beforehand and use an earlier road where you can, or do a U turn where you can turn right going east which is probably also banned. This is Old Marylebone Road and being August I barely saw another car the whole way.

Who wants to see another Otipua Wetlands pukeko? If not then please close your eyes.

I like those pukekos - I love coots whatever they're called.

This fortification - Boyard's Cove fort - in Dartmouth was built in the 16th century to defend
the harbour. Ironically, the only time it came under fire was during the English Civil war
& that was from land, not sea. It's now been restored to something like its former glory.

It is a very long story...Someone destroyed a nest at home and my mother found these two little creatures on the street, alone and hungry. It was August 11th. I took them with me because my mother couldn't take care of them. One of them died after 3 days, the other one is still alive today, August 26th. I found out that they were pigeons, the common species. I became attached to this little one. He is healthy now and developed feathers; this was the first photo I took with both of them.

Here's what my weekends are like during wintertime (i.e. now) - the clothing and venue change for basketball as well. Cricket season is not too far away...

LOL Chris, no! One set does belong to #1 son. I think he somehow got put through a pasta maker about a year ago - he's put on no weight but is now about 30 cm (1 ft) taller!

When not rostered by the team manager (my wife!) to be a linesman, my self-appointed task is to take photos throughout the season. At the end of the season, I put a DVD together featuring all of the boys in action and each boy gets a copy. Just a bit of fun!

Another group of islands off the Coromandel coast - the Aldermen Islands seen from Pauanui Beach, a lot further out than the previous Shoe and Slipper Islands.

Here's a Canadian bird to go along with some of those that Howie has posted. This chap had been standing on that rocky shelf, but decided the fishing would be better if he got right into the river.

It wasn't easy on the knees to get down so low to take the shot but it gave me the chance to
play around with depth-of-field etc. We must suffer for our art from time to time.
