Hiyas,

Just want to see what your general impression of the quiz center is after playing a few games over a number of days. Do you look forward to new games? Is the current layout boring? Is the quality, in general, of the games pretty good?

Also, give me a list of "cool features" that you'd like to see added. Now's the best time for them.

Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry, just wanted to say once again that I really like the idea behind the new quiz center - very interactive. As you can probably tell, I've found a new hobby and am enjoying creating quizzes, as well as playing the games created by others. I sometimes wonder why you devote so much time to a "free" site, but I think I am beginning to understand that it is the fun of sharing favourite information and trivia with others; having them stump you, but then you are able to stump them sometimes too... LOL.

Can I get a bit of advice, please (not just from Terry but from all FunTrivia friends)...
I have had a few "correction" comments on some of my questions, asking that I be more lenient in what is considered a correct answer (this would apply to "fill in the blank" where the answer has to be spelled exact). For example, if the answer is New York City and the hint says (three words), should I also be supplying such correct answers as NYC, New York, Manhattan? (This is not one of my questions by the way, but just an example). On a few answers I have given two similar replies (i.e. with and without an apostrophe) to try to include variations. I've also tried to be careful in choosing questions/answers that have only one possible answer and spelling when they are "fill in the blank". However, one person suggested a common misspelling of a surname should be included as a correct answer. As it is a game and should be fun, I do not want to be nitpicking. Comments please? I'll edit my answers accordingly. Thanks.

This is a problem we've had with weekly games for a while now I suggest that you be lenient *within the bounds of the hint*. So if your hint is three words, think of all possible three word answers. If you really want to be kind, add some other possibilities. But overall, if it asks for three words, players should put three words. I'm going to write up a little "quizzyland tips" section shortly which will tell players to follow those hints seriously. Great games Astrix!

As for why I have put lots of work into this site... well good question I have built different parts of hte site to learn different things primarily. The fun fact archive was to learn basic HTML and cgi. Quizzyland was to learn SQL and some complex database stuff. I like to watch the place grow.

Hi Terry, I have not had so much fun on any trivia site since I got my computer. I love it, even when I do really poorly it's still fun. I hope you keep this on. All of the Funtrivia is great. Thank you for all your efforts and all who contribute.

I would also like to say that I LOVE Quizzyland. I spent hours online just hitting refresh, waiting for a new quiz to come online. And even more time researching and coming up with quizzes of my own. The overall tournaments are great, but this is just really cool and fun. Thanks for putting it out here for us.

I agree with the other comments. It is great fun creating quizzes and playing other folks' quizzes.

For the past several months I have been creating quizzes for my (extended) family, a mailing list of about 20-25 people. Some of them have been interested, but overall the response has been weak. Now, I have simply told them to come to this site and they can play my quizzes here!

Keep up the good work with this wonderful site!

Glad you like it all. In one week we have 117 quizzes. I'm totally shocked, because I was expecting maybe 5 a week or something. Looks like it has taken off.

I was eventually going to put things in a nice categorized hierarchy, but it looks like Ill have to do that sooner. You will be able to go straight to your favorite topics and look for new quizzes there then.

In addition, 'random quiz' will be improved to be more random. Right now it picks the highest rated quiz that you have not yet played. I'm thinking of creating a category hierarchy much like Yahoo's directory (or the open directory project), where editors can add categories and subcategories wherever they want. So when we have enuf quizzes, "Entertainment" may look like:

Entertainment: Movies: Scream
And all scream quizzes would be inside there.

Also... I am creating a 'guest' interface, so that people will be able to link their own quizzes directly to their own webpage or website. People going to your site will then be able to play YOUR games, and then be returned automatically back to your site.

So LOTS of cool additions to come!

Thanks,
Terry

I love this place.I don't know much about how things are done but I was wondering if its possible that once you do a quiz and rate it if you could be taken back where you left off instead of the begining?Thank-you for all you do.Great job!!!

I adore Quizzlyand. I came along a few days after it started, and have been here since.

A couple of suggestions... Quizzyland is growing so fast, the number of quizzes increasing exponentially, that it looks like some "weeding" will have to be done.

Can we discuss a moratorium on further TV show/movie/90's music type quizzes? It's *so* disappointing and boring to log on, see 20 new quizzes, and find out that about 18 of them are yet another "My favorite episodes of some obscure show you never heard of, with totally obscure and painful questions". I know it's mentioned in the Quiz Creator, but people don't seem to be listening....perhaps *any* quiz on a TV show or movie should be rejected unless it is both new (on a topic for which no quiz already exists) and well-done (not just another "In the 15th episode of Stupid Show, what color was the carnation in Dumb Character's buttonhole?"

I also find that many of the quizzes are obviously the products of kids- full of misspellings and wrong answers. This is true even of many of the non-TV show quizzes. Is there any way that at least the most blatant grammar/spelling errors can be caught? Also, what if a quiz creator, despite feedback, *doesn't* fix their quiz? I welcome feedback, and when errors or ambiguities are pointed out to me, I fix them immediately. But it looks like many quiz creators don't do this.

I also think it might be a good idea to require more descriptive subject lines. A lot of the general knowledge quizzes are especially bad- had one yesterday that was mostly random questions about 90's music (a subject I know nothing about) but the tag line was something about the quiz being "girly". Didn't tell me anything about the quiz!

But all in all, I think you guys are doing a wonderful job! Quizzlyand is my favorite place on the web, bar none.

Love the Quizzyland section, although it is a bit daunting the way I keep falling further & further behind because I just can't keep up with all the new quizzes. Also think that the percentages of people who got answers right was a really nice touch. I would like to see some way of responding to suggestions/comments that I receive. I'd like to be able to thank people for their compliments and sometimes need to ask clarifications on some of their suggestions. Currently, the only way I can figure out how to do this is to do what someone did to me - take one of their quizzes (assuming they had one) and tack on the comment to that. I also would like to see some sort of spell checking capability. Overall, this is a wonderful addition to your site. Keep up the good work!

Just thought of another addition you could make. Sometimes I find a quiz I really like. It would be nice if I could find all of the quizzes that that creator made.

I think Quizzyland is great!

My suggestion is that maybe it be limited to a certain number of games--500,600,whatever,
and any game falling below that number be terminated.

I am addicted to quizzyland. I've
been quizzing friends and family ever
since highschool-- a long time ago!
I think fate brought me here. I
never go anywhere else on the web
now! If I could change one thing it
would be to not be sent back to the
main menu after a quiz. I would
rather be able to choose where to go.
I usually want to return to the same
category I began in. I also receive
many notes from people that I wish I
could respond to. Most are very nice
and request that I make more quizzes
about certain topics, especially
Stephen King. Sometimes people send
me what they think is a correction,
but when I check it out they are
mistaken. I wish I could let them
know I didn't ignore them, I did
check it out. Also, I haven't
figured out how to change my blurb.
It says you can do it from the main
menu, but I can't find where. I
filled in my blurb awhile ago and
what if I want to change it? I'd
like to know how.
I've told many people to visit this
site and play. I can't say enough
good things about it. I love to see
who's played my quizzes and how they
did. I love the percentage numbers.
Its good to see what stumped 'em and
what was too easy. Thanks Terry, for
all the fun you have given us!

The number of quizzes will continue to increase, but I'm in the middle of creating a pruning algorithm which will remove quizzes that:

- have a very low rating
- receive too many 'correction' submissions
- are rated as Impossible and have any of the above

This should help ensure some quality control and keep things fun.
