Is there any way that peoples' usernames can somehow be used to send *them* messages? Sometimes people leave me comments on one of my games and I'd like to contact them, but unless they have authored a game themselves or have an email addy in their profile, I have no way to do so.

Yup, that's on the to do list. You will be able to 'reply' to messages, or send messages directly to players.
