I go a few correctons that were rude. I always check and recheck my quizzesfor mistakes each Quiz is completely researched before I even start to type it in. But I have also noticed that the rude commets/corrections ( which are usually wrong anyway) seem to come from those who score low on my quizzes. Has anyone else had this problem?

yep. happens all the time. i just ignore them. I'll take a quick look to see what they are talking about and they are always wrong. I have a feeling its usually some "younger" players that need to learn some manners. one girl "yelled" at me that i couldn't spell--when in fact she was the one who couldn't. Another one "yelled" that they got something wrong--like its my fault they don't know! I don't understand it--its just a game! I say ignore them unless they are out of line. Then report them to Terry. He can delete their accounts and keep them out of quizzyland if he chooses. hungreee

Sammicat,
I think the best thing about the rude comments is that they are normally from people who aren't quiz creators themselves giving you no way to respond or to defend the correctness of a question.

The world's full of rude people, Sammiecat. It's unfortunate that they have to even exist, but I suppose we wouldn't know what civility and politeness are if we didn't have a comparison model of rudeness.

If you want to see RUDE, you should read what Snowbird and I get in reply to the Weekly and Daily Challenges, where tournament points are concerned. Gad, you'd think we were personally responsible for war, famine, pestilence and impending death!

The ignorant and stupid remarks just make me appreciate the nice folks all the more, which I couldn't do without the creeps to use for comparison. After amusing myself with these, I just zap them into cyber-space and answer the civil people.

Don't dwell on them. They are far fewer than the good folks who appreciate the work you put into your project.

I have to say that most of the people who have replied to my quizes have been very polite and I have corresponded with several new friends, but read my topic on Tough Simpsons Trivia regarding the messages that were sent to my 12 year old son. He created a quiz that had some inaccuracies and received several downright abusive messages from some members. Some people seriously need to evaluate their lives if they have to resort to such abuse over a quiz!

I haven't gotten too many really rude corrections, but I have gotten some weird ones. One person took me to task for one of my quizzes where I point out that Adolf Hitler's name, anagrammed, is "Hated for ill", stating "Why is Hitler 'evil'??!! He changed the face of the planet forever. He may be the most influential man in the history of the world!"

Yeah, he's right up there in the running with Stalin, Ghengis Khan, Blackbeard and Attila the Hun. I think you could say they were all rather 'influential' in their own way.

Perhaps, crisw, you got one of those 'neo-nazi', psycho Skinheads. They're always trumpeting the cause of Hitler's reputation. I don't think their doughnuts are fully glazed.

The craziest thing is that a few rude replies Ive received are from those who have done well in the quiz! For example, Gjohnson felt he (or she) had to shout his correction to me regarding my presidents quiz in all caps, though his correction had nothing to do with the answer of the question and he got all the answers right! He could have submitted a suggestion instead of a correction and done it in a more civil manner. A good rule of thumb is that unless the answer is completely false its a good idea to submit a suggestion to the quiz editor - that way the quiz doesnt lose rank. Again, as I said in one of the other threads, it will be good when quiz editors can reply to those who take their quiz - I think everyone will behave with a bit more civility then.

A lot of people still don't realize that all-caps typing is rude, even those who work with computers all day (I had a co-worker like that earlier this year). Don't smack 'em for rudeness until you're sure they know it's rude... then open up with both barrels.

Oh, no, this was definately rude. I know my son uses all caps sometimes (though I told him that this is the same as shouting), but this person used several exclamation marks to prove his point and the general tone of his letter was rude. It makes me wonder what he would have wrote if he got a bad score....

Ah, the simple joys of editing and posting quizzes.

When you think it's getting you down, try to imagine the replies I get to the DailyChallenge quiz questions. This is where points count toward one's standing in the tournaments, and some blockheads get truly vulgar and personally insulting. And often they're wrong! I answer a lot of the complaints and queries, even when they're wrong, from the more lucid people, as I think they deserve an answer to a proper question.

When someone's right in their complaint, I'll apologize, correct the offending quiz and try to give it an upbeat spin, somehow.

A lot of people think I write these questions myself, when actually, I do what you folks do, but under some pressure when the new quizzes (15 games) suddenly appear at midnight on change day. Things get missed and passed over. Some eagle eye will find them and pass them on, either properly or almost hidden in a stream of vile invective. The former, I fix and say 'thanks.' The latter amuses me, I chuckle at the creativity (or lack of it) and check out the complaint.

Like I said in my post above, don't worry about these cretins. Must be terrible to be them and have to sweat all the small stuff.

'Illegitimi non carborundum,' and let the games go on.

No problem, Ember. It's actually a paraphrase of the first lines of the poem "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. (early WWII fighter pilot.)

'Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of.

Wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence; hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark or even eagle flew.

And while, with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high, untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.

It's a paean of praise for the emotional rush felt by most fighter pilots. I know what Magee was feeling; I've felt it as well.

I remember, back when tv stations actually went off the air for the night, when they would quote this as a picture of a jet soared across the sky. Then, they'd play the Star Spangled Banner with our flag waving. Always gave me goosebumps. Still does, when I think about it.

Then, we'd get that test pattern and "hmmmmmmmm" sound until the station started up again the next morning!
