T20 Champions League 2014 -- September 13-Oct 4, 2014

The Sixth edition of the T20 Champions League cricket takes place in India this year between September 13 and October 4.

You don't need any cricketing know-how to take part in this slam-bang comp. All we do is toss a coin (or throw a dart) and pick the winners for each match. No bankers to pull you down, but bonus points if you are the sole tipper of a match. Best of all, it's not a long competition and it's all over in less than a month.

srini701 is the defending champion in our comp and previous winners include illiniman (2012), Sypher (2011), paper_aero (2010) and gtho4 (2009). Nobody has yet defended their title in this competition. Illiniman has been on the podium the last 2 years.

Looking for the usual suspects of 10-11 people to make it a comp this year too....Please sign up so I know you will be there.

A warm "welcome" to all those returning back to this competition from last year and a big "welcome back" to N-Bomb, who missed this last year.

Northern Districts Knights from New Zealand (in a horrid pink outfit) were clearly the best team of the 4 in the qualifiers, winning all three of their matches with ridiculous ease (the dress may have intimidated their opponents grin ) to qualify for the main tournament. Lahore Lions from Pakistan won two matches to become the first team from that country to qualify for the main Champions League. Defending champions of the tournament Mumbai Indians bowed out after a listless display.

George95 and Howie72 take the opening honors here, while ozzz2002 wins the first bonus point. wwe84 starts his campaign on the wrong foot.

The main tournament starts tonight (Wednesday, September 18) so hoping everybody got their tips in for the opening match....

Kolkata Knight Riders won their opening two matches, helped by their spinners (Sunil Narine must look like a demon to the batsmen in T20 shocked ), the Kings XI Punjab batsmen continue to chase down huge totals but otherwise, most of the teams look pretty evenly matched in this year's Champions League.

Cape Cobras put up a huge score and looked good to defend it against Hobart Hurricanes, except that Vernon Philander spoiled it with a no-ball tongue The Dolphins almost won against Perth Scorchers, but Mitchell Marsh hit 12 off the last 2 balls of the match smirk The next set of matches should be pretty interesting!

Howie72 continues to fly high here and with gtho4, almost picked the card. George95 is a couple of points behind the leaders. ozzz2002 picked up a spoon, but he also got a point for a sole pick! The next set of matches should be pretty interesting here too (unless we all picked the same teams to win/lose whistle )

Catching up on the results, so a short write up...

Howie72 keeps his lead at the top as a clutch of us get a bonus point for perfect or near perfect picks.

Everybody awarded 1 point each for the abandoned match smile

BxBarracuda and ozzz2002 share the spoon and the basement as well after the round...

Other than the Dolphins from South Africa, every other team won at least one match in the competition... Barbados Tridents beat the Northern Districts Knights to dent their chances, while Perth Scorchers ran the Chennai Super Kings close, but could not just make it to the finish line...so we finally have 3 IPL teams and 1 BBL team in the last four once again, as reports of "elitism" in the Champions League T20 continue to fly in frown

paper_aero nearly picked the lot, and flies up the table to be in contention for a podium place, as did illiniman14...these two pick up the last bonus points for this season (remember there is NO perfect pick bonus for final round)

wwe84, ozzz and BxBarracuda share the spoon for the round...these 3 have hogged all the spoons this season so far!

In a most interesting turn of events over the last 3 matches, we have a completely new podium to what we were actually headed for, since the start of the competition!!!! confused shocked crazy

Howie72 led the entire comp, right from the qualifiers, and he banked on Kings XI Punjab to go all the way...the team sank in the semifinals, and with that went Howie's hopes frown

gtho4 was never below the second spot the entire comp, and he should rightfully have been among the medals...he also picked Kings XI for the semis and picked Kolkata to win it all...the 1 point he won for Kolkata helped him tie with Howie on scores, but a better HoF record helps Howie push gtho4 off the podium!

illiniman14 was in a great position to make it a hat-trick of podium finishes in this comp...He ALSO banked on Kings XI and went kaput in the final round frown

srini701 had an outside chance to finish among the medals, but his luck ran out with Hobart losing in the semis....George95 left it a little too late to make a run for it. N-Bomb was just content to start the cricket season on a sedate note and never really threatened anybody....wwe84 had an up and down comp and looks set for an interesting cricketing season ahead here in our comps smile

Which leaves us with the top and bottom of our comp! BxBarracuda persisted and finally succeeded in toppling ozzz2002... or ozzz2002 managed to find a way to slip to the bottom smile ozzz finishes the comp with 4 consecutive spoons, and with wwe84, should be unpredictable and fun to watch for in the longer World Cricket comp smile

Sypher was lurking silently all along without any spectacular picks all along and proved consistency matters smile He had a perfect final round and jumped past 3-4 other contenders to take home the silver medal this year! Well done, sir!

paper_aero left his run to the final two rounds, but he timed his final burst to perfection and with another perfect round, becomes the first person to win this comp twice! Congrats to paper_aero for that fantastic show!

A BIG thanks to ozzz for helping out with the schedule, and to all of you for taking part....hoping to see everybody return for the longer World Cricket comp that starts October 22....
