Oof. I really think that number is broken; probably added in in the game's first year.

My number is at 70817 (post NQ game).

Well that number keeps changing - for instance, it's 88613 right now. So it's definitely not the game's first year.

I have often wondered about the sheer number of questions. If it's really been over 80k questions a year, what accounts for the repetition in so many of the games? (It's not that they've a higher rating, or anything - Terry has previously said that all questions with a positive rating are treated equally after they leave the NQ game.)

That is most likely all the questions since the game's inception. There must be a typo. I easily deal with ten or more single questions a day, but that is not every day and not every editor.

Not really a question about the Queue per se but in todays New Question game I had a question from Nightmare. I had not joined FT when Nightmare was active. Is there a backlog of questions submitted by him that is being dispersed slowly? The question was about American baseball (which was of course Nightmare's favorite topic) had a longer II then Nightmare was known to write, which led me to wonder if perhaps there was another author using the same name.

If there is a long lost of Nightmare questions available perhaps they can be packaged into a tribute quiz?

Most likely it had a CN. Once that was dealt with, it would go back into the "new" game for a bit.
