There were two upsets this round, with eighth-placed Central Coast beating second-placed Adelaide. Sydney beat Perth, in Perth. Nobody picked either of these results. Western Sydney finally won a game, and more importantly, FussBudget won a HoF!
Other gongs went to wwe84, BxBarracuda and gtho4. Everybody else got a spoon.

Sydney, Melbourne Victory and Adelaide all won to keep the pressure up. In the battle for the 6th and final play-off spot, the win by Melbourne City saw them overtake Brisbane after their high scoring loss to Sydney though Brisbane have 2 games in hand. No change at the bottom with Central Coast, Western Sydney and Newcastle all losing.

This week was an interesting round that started with Sydney losing its unbeaten record since the Asian Cup break with a home loss to Melbourne City, consolidating the latter in the 6th and final play-off spot. In the battle of the basement, Newcastle registered their first away win of the season to overtake Western Sydney (Western Sydney won the catch up match over Brisbane to relegate Newcastle back to the bottom on goal difference). Melbourne Victory escaped with an away draw at Adelaide in an entertaining match that saw Adelaide dominate possession and chances created. It looked like Perth would get their first win in 9 matches until a superb injury time goal saw the points shared with Central Coast. In a strange match, Wellington recorded their first ever win away to Brisbane which was called off in the 73rd minute due to torrential rain making the pitch unplayable. The result stood and with none of the other four teams challenging for the league title winning, Wellington increased their lead to 4 points leading into an international weekend that sees many teams lose players to the international matches.
Back to normal this week with a low strike rate seeing only gtho4 and srini701 getting more than half correct with 3/5.
Spoons this week go to Sypher, BxBarracuda and N-Bomb with 0/5.
Not one person got any of the first two matches correct which was not surprising.
Srini701 showed there was no room for two people on the third spot of the podium and pushed illiniman off.

Each team challenging the league leading Wellington Phoenix for the minor premiership won while the Phoenix team got outplayed at home by Sydney but still retain a slim lead ahead of next week's match against the second place Melbourne Victory. Only 2 points separate the top 5 teams, almost like this tipping competition. In the battle for the 6th and final play-off spot, Melbourne City increased the gap to 8 points with a win over the Brisbane Roar who are more of a whimper lately but the latter do have a game in hand. No change at the bottom with Newcastle Jets propping up the rest of the teams.
A good strike rate this week with five of us getting 4/5 and a respectable 2/5 saw wwe84 and srini701 earning a spoon.
Srini701 looked ahead to see where the finishing line was and stumbled over a spoon, this momentary lapse of concentration saw him tumble off the podium for the first time this season, the beneficiary being illiniman14 who takes his place.
A spoon for wwe84 sees Howie72 take over sole possession of lead but like the minor premiership, still a number of people who could emerge with bragging rights this season.
A new low for srini701 who will be hoping to avoid a late freefall.

Thursday night saw Brisbane run all over Central Coast and sore 6 goals to remind Melbourne City they are not going away in the chase for the 6th play-off spot. In the Good Friday Sydney rain, Melbourne City answered Brisbane with an away point against Western Sydney to be six points clear of Brisbane with the northerners still having a game in hand. Sydney dominated Adelaide but found the Adelaide goalkeeper in superb form and as often happens in these situations, they went down to a late Adelaide goal. Wellington lost top position in the league after back-to back 3-0 home losses, with Melbourne Victory taking over after the very comfortable away win. Perth continued to keep the pressure up on the leaders with a soggy away win at Newcastle which keeps the home team at the bottom of the ladder.
George95 and paper_aero claimed the weekly win with 3/5. Howie72, wwe84, ozzz2002 and srini701 all managed just 1/5 and took home a spoon each.
Three bonus points were awarded this week for solo tips. George95 receives two for tipping the draw between Western Sydney and Melbourne City as well as Adelaide's away win. The other bonus point went to paper_aero for tipping Melbourne Victory to win away in Wellington.
The weekly win along with the two bonus points sees George95 join Howie 72 at the top of the ladder. With three rounds to go just three points separate the top six so like the A-League itself, this could go any way.
A new low for srini701 (again) and BxBarracuda while there is a new high for George95.

A full house of tipsters this week.
Friday night saw the first upset of the round with the bottom team, Newcastle, winning away at the top team, Melbourne Victory. Sydney travelled across Australia to easily beat Perth and keep their unbeaten away record intact after Perth had been ruled out of the play-offs due to breaches of the salary cap regulations. Brisbane travelled to Adelaide knowing that their unlikely chance of making the play-offs had suddenly become a near certainty due to the Perth situation, they duly won to cement their place (unless court action says otherwise). In an entertaining match, an early goal was enough for Central Coast to beat Western Sydney that leaves the Sydney team in last pace. In another entertaining match that saw 15 shots on target between the two teams, Wellington missed a chance (and a penalty) to return to the top spot with a goalless draw at Melbourne City and remained in 5th place.
0zzz2002 went out on a limb with some of his picks and did not fall off the branch in claiming the weekly win with 3/5. Five people (wwe84, BxBarracuda, Sypher, paper_aero, and srini701) did not manage to get a tip correct between them so received spoons for 0/5.
Two bonus points were awarded this week for solo tips, both went to ozzz2002 for tipping Newcastle (how did he know this would happen?) and Brisbane winning away. This sees him jump up on to the podium for a share of third with two rounds left.
George95 is now out front by himself with a one point lead.
A new low for srini701 again, he must be hoping someone stops his freefall.

Friday night saw Wellington behind to Central Coast 2-0 at halftime before staging a remarkable come back to win 3-2 with the winning goal five minutes into stoppage time. In a seven goal thriller, Sydney edged out Newcastle to keep their hopes of a top two finish alive and remain unbeaten away from home. Western Sydney moved off the bottom of the table with a home win over 10-man Adelaide. Melbourne Victory remained three points clear at the top when a penalty on the stroke of halftime was enough to see them win in Brisbane for the second time in a few days. Perth won at home over Melbourne City to remain in third place but ineligible for the play-offs so their season will end next week.
illiniman and ozzz2002 were the weekly winners this round with 4/5 while wwe84, paper_aero and Sypher earn spoons with 2/5. This is wwe84's fourth spoon in a row,
Another bonus point was handed out this round and it went to gtho4 who predicted Western Sydney would beat Adelaide.
George95 remains out in front by one point with illiniman14 and ozzz2002 joining Howie72 in second place. It is most likely the medallists will come from these four but with the A-League you never know.
Srini701 found a way to stop his freefall and climbed back up a spot whereas Sypher falls to his lowest position all season.
We have finally made it to the last round and all will be revealed soon.

We had a full house for the final round.
Friday night saw a goal from Brisbane four minutes into stoppage time earn them a win over Newcastle and consign the Jets to the wooden spoon. A massive storm appeared just before the scheduled kick-off in the Western Sydney vs Perth match, the pitch was covered in hail and the start delayed by an hour. The turbulent weather matched the turbulent season for Perth who emerged victorious and now must watch the play-offs despite finishing the regular season in second place. Adelaide head into the play-offs with a win in their final match, giving Melbourne City a 4-1 hiding. Once again Wellington found themselves behind 2-0 at half time but this time they could not stage the comeback like last round and Sydney held on to remain unbeaten away from home and secure a bye in the first week of the play-offs. Melbourne Victory wrapped up the premiership in style with a comfortable win at home over the Central Coast.
George95 ended the season in style with a perfect round to achieve the last weekly win. We had to open another box of spoons to have enough to give out to the seven of us who earned one with 3/5.
George95 also earned a bonus point for his effort.
With his perfect round, George 95 wrapped up the tipping season in spectacular fashion and finished three points clear of ozzz2002 and illiniman14. We needed a tie-break to determine which of these two won the silver medal, they both ended with a positive three difference between weekly wins and spoons but ozzz200 takes it with his 9 weekly wins to 7. Howie72 was the one to fall off the podium in the final week.
We ended up with three different medallists to last year.
