It might be a sport, or gentle needlecraft, gardening or rockclimbing. Whatever floats your boat in your spare time. Go,go,go!

Gardening, or sometimes just sitting and looking at the gardening to be done

In 2008 I spotted my first pre 1964 road sign, I now appear to have the largest collection online.

Here is a typical example

I enjoy making cards for family and friends. These are from a kit, made during a weekend scrapbooking and card making retreat a few years ago.

Ooooh what to choose! I took up archery last year, so I think I'll show you a photo of my bow. It's quite a simple one but I don't want to invest anything more in it as I will be changing it by the end of the year.

One of my many hobbies is collecting thimbles. These were sent to me by a very special FunTrivia friend and I treasure them!

Before 1964 the speed limits below 20mph for little roads were like this rather than circular, with the red circle on top. Only one survives with one in Britain (which luckily is in London), but I found this one yesterday without one which is in very good condition.

That's definitely very "you" satguru!!!

And MG, isn't it just a little exciting knowing those three little pieces have travelled right to/from the other side of the world?!!!

What a lovely collection of musical instruments, ertrum! I can add another woodwind to the collection if only I could get my camera out and photograph a couple of other hobby-relating things for here ...

As promised, here's another woodwind to go with ertrum's little collection. This is one of a half-a-dozen sets hanging around the house, all of which are in perfect working order. The oldest dates from the late 1800s and is made of African blackwood and decorated with real ivory mounts, which is obviously no longer possible nowadays.

This one has some beautiful engraved silverwork decorating it, but in desperate need of a little TLC (read: elbow-grease to polish it up, hehe), I'm afraid:

I started playing at around 11 years of age, and sort-of gave it up after my first child was born, due to lack of time. I have played on-and-off since, but have to confess that it's been a couple of years since I last played regularly. I really should get back to it, it's great for keeping the abs in shape and burning a few calories grin

What a lovely set of pipes. I hadn't thought that there was much of a following in France.

In Brittany there is a huge interest in the local Breton music. Every town has its own bagad (pipe band) comprising bagpipes, bombarde, biniou and drums.

There are also a couple of "pure" pipe bands to be found in France, with just the regular pipes & drums (Paris & District PB for example).

My (Breton) husband is a champion solo piper, but I learned on my grandfather's knee back home in Dublin (Ireland) grin

I didn't know that the Breton pipes looked so similar to the Highland ones. Are they the same?

They use regular highland pipes in their bagads, but they also have the local Breton pipes, called biniou, which look like the ones here. Note, there is only one drone, the blowpipe and chanter are tiny. The player holds the bag high up under their arm with their hands on the chanter not far from their chins!

Nowadays there's a whole percussion section also, symbals, a variety of drums, and all sorts of other instruments are often seen in the line up (clarinet, sax, ...)

Since I love reading, here's a photo taken at a bookstore called Blossoms in Bangalore. It has rows and rows of shelves filled with books and I could've spent days here. All the books are mostly second hand but in good condition and I could find authors I don't find in any other Indian bookstore here and at a really cheap price (around 1.5$ per book).
