Nobody has ever retained their title in the 10 editions this comp has been run! ....srini701 is the defending champion here followed by Howie72 and Sypher....N-Bomb has a massive spoonless streak going too This is the season of the World Cup, so we will have plenty of ODI action leading to it. Plenty of other cricket too, and we will see every Test team in play here in our comp over the next 3 months! 13 rounds in all this season till end of January. You will as usual pick 5 players for Test matches and 6 (or more) for ODI series from the list of players I will provide and you score as many points as the runs/wickets by your selected player. A carefully chosen Trump player can double your points and boost your scores considerably. If you are not a regular visitor to the forums here, you can still lodge a team at the beginning of a series and allow it to score for you till a new series comes about. Most threads won't be up till a few days before a match/series and the comp may also involve some unannounced series and some mega bonus rounds in between (where 2 matches start on same/close by dates). A hearty welcome to all those returning to the 11th edition of the World Cricket competition at FT...all runners except one from last season lined up and we added one "newcomer" to the list...a bigger welcome then to illiniman14, who is testing the cricketing waters in a very unusual season here....It is the season of the World Cup (in February-March 2015), so we will have plenty of ODI series here this season and very few Test matches. N-Bomb, who has a streak going, has forgotten to lodge tips the very first round, but he promised to be back from the next, so his streak will continue as and when he lines up...
Pakistan beat Australia in the first Test in the desert sands of Dubai by a huge margin, with Younis Khan scoring 2 centuries in the match. Misbah-ul-Haq is thus just 1 draw away from becoming the first 40+ captain in over 100 years of beating the Australians!
paper_aero has jumped out of the blocks in right earnest and is closely followed by BxBarracuda. illiniman14 takes the first spoon, but ozzz2002 is not too far ahead of him.

The next round (Thursday, October 30) consists of another Test between these 2 teams, so if you wish, you can let your first round team score for you. But please note that round 3 is then just 2 days away (Sunday, November 2), so please make sure you lodge teams for round 3 without fail (just a reminder...you pick 6 people for ODIs and 5 for Tests, so do keep an eye out when you lodge the tips )

Pakistan duly completed their biggest ever Test win, as Younis Khan, Azhar Ali and captain Misbah all continued their massive run spree. The Aussie batsmen continued to find ways to get out to average spinners! But the Tests in the sub-continent are out of the way now and they can focus on their next assignment, a 5-match ODI series against South Africa
3 of us chose to go with our same teams as in the first Test, with mixed results...BxBarracuda had a fine run there and takes over the driver's spot from paper_aero with a HoF score, while gtho4 takes home his first spoon for the season. Sypher had a so-so round too....N-Bomb has returned to the field and continues his spoonless streak. Ozzz2002 did not pick up a spoon for the second round in a row, but still slips to the bottom

The next round has started (India-Sri Lank 5 match ODI series) and other than ozzz, everybody has lodged tips. Round 4 will be the Australia-South Africa ODI series from November 14... remember you pick 6 players for the ODIs, not 5....Sypher and gtho4, this is specially for you

Plenty for me to catch up with in this comp, so really sorry about that Both India and Sri Lanka changed their sides around a lot and rested a few players as they started their preparation for the World Cup in a hastily arranged ODI series. This meant a lot of our picks, who would otherwise have been "regulars", hardly got a chance to repose their faith in our selections
gtho4 and N-Bomb had a fabulous series there and shot up the table...N-Bomb continuing his spoonless streak by another round in this comp! wwe84 did not have a good one and drops down the ladder...N-Bomb may have got the HoF had he lodged a 6th player (Sypher also lodged only 5 players for this round!)
illiniman14 is still finding his feet in cricket and takes home a second spoon ozzz2002 for some strange reason did not lodge picks (very unlike him ) and stays rooted to the bottom...

The next round is the Australia - South Africa ODI series which also is over and I see all 10 of us have lodged tips for that one Scores coming up tomorrow!

Australia won the ODI series against South Africa and edge past India to become the number 1 ODI team in the world. But the more important and grave news is the accident suffered by Australian Test hopeful Phil Hughes in a domestic match He remains in critical condition after being hit on the head by a bouncer (for our American friends -- a "bouncer" here is not a guy at a bar, but a short-pitched ball that rears dangerously off the pitch and usually sails way above the batsman's heads)
paper_aero once again takes over the front runner duties from BxBarracuda and srini701 lands his first HoF for the season in a round where most scores were pretty close, but after 4 rounds, we are all still pretty bunched up...no clear favorites yet for the title
wwe84 takes his first spoon, gtho4 continues to rise up while N-Bomb continues his spoonless streak!

The next round may well see some movements (unless we all again put up similar teams ) Zimbabwe-Bangladesh are still playing their 3rd ODI today (Wednesday), so it might be a few days before those results are up ...

It was a strange round...our leader forgot to lodge his tips, and the person trailing him forgot to lodge a trump...result is that both paper_aero and BxBarrcuda took a big dive down the table to new lows, allowing five others to leapfrog them. srini701 is the new leader after picking up back-to-back HoFs and is closely followed by N-Bomb now
Also a strange round because of the 54 players we picked amongst ourselves in a Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series, only 2 players did NOT play a match...very impressive on our part

This round was originally posted as round 8, but with Sri Lanka and England playing 7 long ODIs, decided to score this as round 6... It was an emotional and welcome return to cricket for Australia and India under a temporary captain (Virat Kohli) proved worthy opponents, fighting them to till the very last before going down by 48 runs.
David Warner and Virat Kohli had an outstanding Test, scoring centuries in both innings, Steve Smith scored a century and a fifty and was unbeaten in both innings, Michael Clarke scored a century as well, Murali Vijay scored two fifties in the match, but Nathan Lyon outdid everybody, picking up 12 wickets and the man-of-the-match award in a very closely fought Test deservedly won by the hosts.
Howie72 and paper_aero each scored a 1000+ points this round, the former picking up his first HoF award, while BxBarracuda slipped further, with a second consecutive spoon ... gtho4 forgot to lodge tips for a "home" Test match and as a result, he slips a bit too

The next round involves 2 Test matches (South Africa versus West Indies and Australia - India) and starts on Wednesday, December 17...please lodge a team (of 10 players) before the Test match in Brisbane starts...

One of those "game-changing" rounds in this year's comp....7 ODIs is not a joke, and some of us made the most of it in every which way N-Bomb, ozzz2002 and paper_aero all picked up a monstrous amount of points and ensured a whole lot of shuffle in the table...N-Bomb takes his first HoF and a massive lead at the top as well.
BxBarracuda, illiniman14 and Howie72 did decently well there as well but srini701 and wwe84 had a round to forget Sypher may well regret defaulting this round when the final scores are tabulated in February 2015
Sri Lanka won 5-2 in a series which proved only one thing...England DEFINITELY do NOT have the team to win next year's World Cup ... And if they persist with Cook as their ODI captain, they may struggle to make even the quarterfinals

The next round to be scored will be the Pakistan-New Zealand 5 ODI series, where surprisingly, ALL of us lodged tips!!!!!

Another very interesting round here with everybody lodging tips on time and in full at that! But some of us continue to pick players who hardly seem to play any part in the matches and drag us down
Sypher is not complaining this round...after defaulting the last round, he picks up his first HoF with a score that is three times that of the spooner, BxBarracuda! Another person who is DEFINITELY not complaining is our leader N-Bomb, who has stretched his lead at the top to humungous proportions and also sees his spoonless streak enter the 60s now ....merits a place in any of the record books? the admins to decide

India continues to collapse from strong positions while batting, and their bowlers continue to allow the opponents' tails to wag (rather vigorously these days)...from 342 for 4 to 408 all out while batting, and allowing Australia to get away from 245 for 6 to 505....we will never learn
I wonder why they are allowing West Indies to play a Test match these days....that too against South Africa! Amla will score a century batting left-handed against them and Steyn will blow them away bowling spin
BxBarracuda continues his roller-coaster ride in our comp here...He picked up a HoF this round to go with the 3 spoons from the previous 4 rounds...N-Bomb is the first past the 10K mark this season...
wwe84 takes the spoon this round....illiniman14, Sypher and ozzz2002 did not lodge tips for the round, so they scored for the Australia-India Test from their first Test teams, and scored the least score from the South Africa-West Indies Test (which was 378 by wwe84).

Wishing everybody here a very fulfilling, happy, healthy, PEACEFUL and prosperous 2015 ahead

The last 2 Test matches of 2014 ended in draws, making it 33% of Draws over the whole year! (only 8 Tests of 41 ended in draws in 2014, making it a very "productive" year indeed for Test cricket)...but more notable was the sudden announcement of retirement from Test cricket of the Indian captain MS Dhoni...there was a lot of speculation about it and talk that there's more to it than meets the eye, but having met and known the man personally, I can vouch that there's not much to speculate there Yes, Dhoni should probably have waited till the end of the series before announcing his retirement, but he's never cared too much about records or stats or farewells and with the series already decided, probably decided he will just go!! Will this affect India's chances in the ODI tri-series or the World Cup? We'll have to wait and see
We were all pretty bunched up in our scores this round (a surprising full house of tips!) meaning no change in the ladder, except gtho4 and Sypher swapping places in the middle....wwe84 took home his 4th spoon for the year, meaning he and BxBarracuda have shared the last 7 spoons this season between themselves

But fret not....there are 2 MASSIVE rounds coming up to round off our comp here....just make sure you lodge your tips for rounds 13 and 14 and we could still see some major surprises in store here
