Hi all,

How is it decided what quizzes are to go in the Top 50?
Because I know statistically there are many quizzes that have been rated higher by players than what is currently number one.
So why is it that some quizzes make it to the Top 50 when there are other quizzes that are rated higher than what is number one statistically but don't manage to make it to the Top 50 at all?

Moving this thread over to the Quizzyland Forum, so the right people can see it. You'll get a response more quickly if the question is in the right spot.

Quizzes that you think should be number 1 aren't because ALL quizzes are rated by our quiz players. Quizzes that consistently receive an 'excellent' will more than likely receive sunglasses and become one of the top 50 quizzes. Like an old saying goes 'just because someone thinks it should be, doesn't me it will be'.

I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction.

Personally, I don't think the quiz rankings mean much.

Many people tend to rate a quiz based on how well they did on it, not on whether or not it's a well-made quiz. Also, people tend to overrate quizzes on subjects they enjoy. In my opinion, if the rating system truly reflected how well a quiz conformed to good quizmaking standards (fresh and interesting questions, good grammar and spelling, plenty of interesting info) few of the quizzes now in the Top 50 would still be there.

Well, they're also updated fairly infrequently. So if you check you'll find that many of the sunglass quizzes and Top 50 quizzes have moved down in rank, but their placement hasn't been updated. I think Terry said at one point that there is a minimum times the quiz must have been played in order for it to appear in the Top Quizzes section, but that may have only applied to the Top Quizzes links from each category.

I know that the first quiz of mine that ever got the shades, was only taken by about ten people, so I figured they must have found it pretty good. But then it kind of shifted down.
It's true that some quizzes that are not terribly well made, but on a really popular subject will rise to the top, but in my humble opinion, will probably not stay up there forever.
