I agree with your comment, Dave, about the brilliant colours in nature. So here's another photo of a rainbow lorikeet. These birds are very common around the south-east coast of Australia.

Today is Australia Day (26 January). We had dinner at a friends' house and then strolled down to the river, a couple of blocks away, to watch the fireworks. This photo is of the Swan River, with boatloads of people who are celebrating, and the city of Perth in the background. Will post a fireworks shot tomorrow.

Thanks very much, Ren and Chavs. I'm delighted you liked the photo! (I did take a large number of them to get this one). The colours are simply amazing.

My grandma brought me back a pack of cards from Australia in the 60s with that bird on the back, I recognised it straight away.

I've managed to figure out the night photography on the small camera now, it seems to be at least as good as the smart one. Richmond Hill.

Sorry about the small size of the photo but it will not let me make it any bigger it seems. Anyway, this is the green green fields of South Canterbury just inland from Timaru on January 29, 2015.

I think the panorama means the maximum width would be exceeded if it was any higher. Cottages in Hurst Green, Surrey.

Happy Birthday, Dave!

My son started boarding school yesterday frown (the sad face is for me .. so far so good for him!:) ) Due to being in a remote area the options are limited to where he can go for high school and pretty much the best option is a school about 7 hours away. :p

here is his part of the dorm .. he got the top bunk but they're going to change every week. There's 8 year 7 kids and two year 11s in the dorm (they have their own room within the dorm).

Yes Happy Birthday Dave!/
Jill this is amazing that he started BIG School It sounds as though he will settle easily and if he does its all down to you and the confidence you have built up in him. We learn in training college that a child is well adjusted if he leaves his mum without too much fuss. I can only wish him a happy school life , and as I said you gave him a terrific start. XXX

Thanks guys, that picture looks very much like the dorm on the SS Uganda in 1974 which I also had a photo of and may have posted it already?

I think we are meant to follow these instructions.

Happy birthday to both birthday boys! Loving all the photos, just haven't been taking many of interest.

Here's Precious, posing amongst some other cuddly objects.

It's amazing what a bit of rain can do. Until it rained a couple of weeks ago there wasn't a blade of grass here!

Someone visited the Delawarr Pavilion in Bexhill yesterday and posted all their pictures so I showed mine from 2002 to compare. This is the view from inside.
