This year (2015) will see the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta.

The four surviving copies are being displayed together this week at the British Library but only if you were lucky enough to get a ticket in the ballot.

I grew up in Salisbury so seeing that copy is one of my childhood memories but to be honest when I was a kid I thought it was just a document in a glass case and didn't pay that much attention.

You were in good company, flopsy. My own impression is that nowadays Magna Carta is taken far more seriously in the U.S. than in England. That may change - but probably only very briefly - around the middle of this year.

A copy from 1300 has been found again.
