Charlie Hebdo means Weekly Charlie and it is a satirical, anti-fascist French publication which took its name from Charlie Brown, the main character in Peanuts. I started reading it as a teenager for my French classes and Jean-Marc Reiser (he died very young, in 1983) and Georges Wolinski (killed at the January 7th shootings) became my favorite cartoonists. The offices of Charlie Hebdo were attacked by Islamists, for the first time, in 2011.
I am deeply, deeply saddened, Je suis Charlie.
