Australian Open 2015The first Grand Slam of the year starts Monday, January 19. Stan Wawrinka will try to defend his men's title but there will be a new women's champion as Na Li has retired. The draws will be out on January 16. ozzz2002 (women's section) and Dizart (men's section) will try to defend their titles in our FT comps. This will be the 10th running of the comp here, and in this time nobody has ever retained their title in the men's section! paper_aero is the only one to have won it more than once so far. srini701 has won the women's comp three years in a row and has won it 4 times in all. - Novak Djokovic won for the fifth time in Melbourne. He's won three (out of nine finals) elsewhere! Andy Murray made it to the finals of the Australian Open for the fourth time...and lost for the fourth time! It seemed we might have a good finals when Murray made it and Wawrinka was battling Djokovic hard in the other semis, but alas (for Murray and for the tennis world), Djokovic always seems to find another gear in Melbourne ("Made by Determination" as his Ad for Jacob's Creek says
 ) - Roger Federer flopped, beaten by a man who had previously won 2 sets in 17 meetings against him. Rafael Nadal battled bravely, lack of matches not withstanding, but it was always clear he would drop against the first really good player he came up against, which he promptly did, against Berdych in the quarters. Seven of the top 8 seeds made it to the quarterfinals, showing up the lack of depth outside the top 10 in the men's field
 - srini701 capped a most dominant performance in our comp here, picking 13 out of the 15 picks (and if you discount Nick Kyrgios (and his 34 points) who none of us picked, srini's 13/14 picks also won 95% of the total points on offer...he only missed Nadal!
- George95 and BxBarracuda complete the podium this year, while gtho4 went from champion in the women's section to a spoon in the men's!
That's the first Grand Slam of the year then....thank you all and here's hoping Nadal will recover well enough in time for another crack at Paris in May...

congrats to three medallists, and thank you srini701 for running this George95 and BxBarracuda complete the podium this year, while gtho4 went from champion in the women's section to a spoon in the men's! yep, hot and cold!
