Team Tennis 2015 -- February to November 2015 This will be the second edition of the Team tennis competition (Fed Cup and Davis Cup). 13 people took part in the inaugural edition in 2014, and N-Bomb has the privilege of being the first winner, with srini701 and Howie72 joining him on the podium. We will only tip the countries we think will win each tie from the list I will provide before each round. Only issue is: The comp will only have 7 rounds, but will run almost the entire year! The schedule for 2015 is: 1. Fed Cup First round: 7 - 8 February 2015 2. Davis Cup First round : 6-8 March 2015 3. Fed Cup semis & Group 1 and 2 playoffs: 18-19 April 2015 4. Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals, Group 1 2nd round: 17 - 19 July 2015 5. Davis Cup World Group Semis: 18-20 September 2015 6. Fed Cup final: 14-15 November 2015 7. Davis Cup finals: 27 - 29 November 2015 Again, we shall have the competition only if there are a minimum of 10 people ready to play (and last) it Please let me know your interest by signing up here. Also any suggestions/ideas you may have in what we can do better this year. The first threads will go up once I know we have a quorum!

| Welcome back to the second edition of the Team tennis competition. 12 of us have returned (LeoDaVinci signed up but did not post tips ) and we added dg_dave to the list , so we start at 13 again!
Fed Cup and Davis Cups have a great history of making mockery of players' rankings, but this was one round where most of the favorites went through as expected. Defending champions Czech Republic were without Petra Kvitova, but they still thrashed Canada (who were themselves without their star player Eugenie Bouchard) in the latter's home ground. Canada, who were playing in their first ever Fed Cup World Group I tie, will now figure in the play-offs in April to stay afloat. The Czech Republic will take on France in the semifinals after the French knocked four-times champions Italy out, coming from 0-2 behind to pull off a great upset on road! It was only the seventh time since 1995 that a team had recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win in Fed Cup and the first time France had achieved it!!
The other World Group I semifinal will feature Russia against Germany. Led by Maria Sharapova, the Russians overwhelmed Poland 4-0, while Germany dished out a comprehensive 4-1 defeat to Australia. Should be a cracker of a semis there if all the top players figure in it.
In the World group II, Romania beat back a spirited challenge from Spain to move into World Group I play-offs. This was the only match in which we were all equally divided here in our picks Netherlands, Switzerland and USA also won through quite easily. USA was the only match which we all agreed on here!
illiniman14 takes the first honors for the year with a near perfect picks. But he also forgot to lodge an advance pick for the Fed Cup winner, and so will miss out on the bonus points towards the end of the year
Also forgetting to lodge picks for the winner was BxBarracuda, who takes home the first spoon (sharing it with wwe84 and ozzz2002). dg_dave picked USA to win the Fed Cup (Dave, unfortunately, the Fed Cup winner only comes from the group I countries and I had listed it so in the thread ) while ozzz picked Italy. The rest of us all have live picks for 3/1 bonus points going into the semis.
The next round of the comp will be the Davis Cup first round matches in the first weekend of March (6-8 March).

| The Davis Cup is probably one of the finest theatres of drama, excitement, surprise and tragedy This weekend proved that in abundance on many courts around the world. To start with the World Group, defending champions Switzerland left out both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka and paid dearly for it, as Belgium handed them a shock first round exit. Will the Swiss big guns return for a World Group playoff tie in September? Let's wait and see....Great Britain beat the United States in the first round, a repeat of their 2014 result, with Andy Murray winning both his singles and James Ward shocking John Isner again! Lightning sometimes does strike twice
Germany extended their losing streak against France to 77 years now, losing to the French at home this time (BxBarracuda and dg_dave predicted an upset that was not to be ). Bernard Tomic put Australia into the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup for the first time since 2006, with the Czech Republic resting Tomas Berdych for the tie. Kazakhstan made it to the quarterfinals for the 4th time in 5 years ( ) beating Italy this time, a result NONE of us saw coming here
Canada won a World Group tie for only the third time in their history, beating Japan for the first time in seven attempts; Serbia surged to an easy win against Croatia but the drama of the weekend was reserved for the Argentina-Brazil tie in Beunos Aires, where Argentina No. 1 Leonardo Mayer and Brazil's Joao Souza fought out a six hour, forty-three minute thriller (the second longest tennis match ever and the longest in Davis Cup history), forcing the tie to move to Monday....this was the only tie all 14 of us agreed upon here
George95 picked up a HoF and with a near perfect bonus point, joins illiniman14 in the lead. He only missed the USA and Italy matches. srini701, N-Bomb and Howie72 missed 3 matches each and missed the bonus point, but they are not too far behind the leaders.
ozzz2002 took home a second spoon but BxBarracuda is not too far ahead. Interesting battle between these two too at the other end of the ladder
The next round of the comp will be the Fed Cup semifinals and playoffs on 18-19 April 2015 (and hopefully LeoDaVinci will *finally* lodge tips for a Fed Cup round )

| Defending Champions Czech Republic reached their fourth Fed Cup finals in five years. Led by Petra Kvitova, they were never troubled by the French, and easily won the tie. Only wwe84 and gtho4 thought the French had a chance against the champions. When Maria Sharapova pulled out of the semifinals, a lot of us here went for Germany as the Germans did name a very strong team. And when the Germans duly made it 2-2 with wins in the reverse singles, the tie was theirs for losing. And lose they did, allowing the Russians to scrape through on the back of some noisy home support!
Serena Williams NEVER lost a Fed Cup tie (singles or doubles) in her career...but Venus Williams pulling out and the Italians in their backyard was a little too much even for her, and Italy duly beat the Americans to return to the World Group for 2016....In other World Group Playoffs, Netherlands beat the Australians (only wwe84 saw it happening), the Romanians won in Canada and Switzerland beat Poland (Martina Hingis played singles for the first time in seven years!)
We were equally divided in almost all our picks here, and with LeoDaVinci continuing to stay away from the Fed Cup, most ties had a 6-7 picks! srini701 took home the HoF to join illiniman14 in the lead. N-Bomb shared the spoon for the round with ozzz2002, who makes it a hat-trick of spoons. BxBarracuda is penalised a point for late tips.
The next round of the comp will be the Davis Cup over the July 17-19 weekend. Make sure you come back in 3 months to lodge tips then

| Andy Murray beat France in all 3 of his matches to take Great Britain to its first ever Davis Cup World Group semifinals since 1981! He will be facing old foes Australia (wasn't that supposed to be only in cricket?) there after the Australians came from 0-2 behind to beat Kazakhstan...after the youngsters Kokkinakis and Kyrgios flopped on day 1, the Aussies turned to their "veterans" Sam Groth and Lleyton Hewitt for the doubles and the reverse singles. Can the Aussies stop Murray? We will know in September.
The other semifinals will be contested by Belgium (who are in their first semifinals since 1999) and Argentina (in the semifinals for the 10th time since 2002 ) There was plenty of drama in the Group I matches as well, with Russia stunning Spain after being down 0-2, India clawing back on the final day from 1-2 down against New Zealand, Netherlands dominating Austria away and a pumped up Poland putting it past Ukraine. Dominican Republic will feature in the World Group Playoffs as well in September, while 5-times winner Spain will be contesting the Europe Group I division next year
N-Bomb took the honors here with an impressive 13/16, but the ones getting bonus points this round were gtho4, ozzz2002 and wwe84....Most of us have no live picks for the advance bonus points for finals, thanks to Murray...
The next round of the comp will be the Davis Cup semifinals and world group playoffs over the September 18-20 weekend.

| Andy Murray beat France in July and now he beat Australia...single-handedly! Murray won all 3 of his ties to take Great Britain to their first-ever Davis Cup Finals since 1978 Can he do his magic just one last time in November?
Facing up to Murray in the finals at home, will be Belgium...who are playing their first Davis Cup Finals in yes, 111 years ....Belgium last played for the massive trophy in 1904, when they lost to...beat this....the British Isles What were the odds of that happening when this year's tournament began with the likes of Switzerland, France, Czech Republic and Australia, all with world-class players in their ranks? The World Group Play-offs were more according to the players' ranks, with most favorites winning (home or away)...Colombia came within a point of qualifying for the World group, but fell for the 3rd straight year, India were outplayed by the Czech Republic, USA overcame a tricky Uzbekistan, while Croatia and Germany had easy road wins.
Howie72's "last minute change of mind" helped him in both matches as he notches an impressive 13/14 picks (remember we were awarding 2 points each for the World Group semis and 1 point each for all others)...Howie gets a perfect pick bonus and he moves into podium position.....illiniman14 falls off the top spot for the first time this season and srini701 edges ahead by a point....wwe84 takes home his second spoon for the season with 7/14 picks.
The next round of the comp will be the finals of the Fed Cup on 14-15 November. Please remember to come back then for the penultimate round of the year.

The Czech Republic won its 4th Fed Cup title in the last 5 years defeating Russia 3-2 in an enthralling encounter. The hosts came back from 2-1 down on the final day after Maria Sharapova showed why she is one the best players in the world with a stunning performance. Sharapova won both her singles matches, but the Czechs managed to put it past the second Russian singles player and won the doubles tie to wrap up their title.
Dizart and paper_aero had a near perfect round there, picking everything except the score after the first day. The advance pick points from round 1 went to 6 players...with 3 players (N-Bomb, Howie72 and George95) picking Germany and 1 (ozzz2002) going for Italy. dg_dave had USA as his advance pick, while 3 players (LeoDavinci, BxBarracuda and illiniman14) had no advance pick.
The next round of the comp will be the final round for the year and will feature the Davis Cup finals between November 27-29.

| Congrats to team Great Britain which won its first Davis Cup title in 79 years! Fred Perry won the last Davis Cup for Britain, back in 1936. Andy Murray, that great beacon of hope for all Brits ever since he started playing tennis, lived up to another HUGE expectation....First "home-grown" Wimbledon champion since Perry, gold-medallist at the Olympics, and now finally the Davis Cup....he became ONLY the 3rd man since the World Group started in 1981 to go unbeaten in every rubber of a Davis Cup after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander (Murray finished 11-0), the first player since Pete Sampras in 1995 to win three live rubbers in a Davis Cup final. Phew....anything this guy can't do?
srini701 won the tipping competition here (after the silver in the opening edition) but it could so easily have been a different result....illiniman14 exemplified the spirit of the tipping comps, by betting on Belgium as his pick to win the tie....2 points there would have tied him on scores with srini and illini would have won the gold on tie-break...instead the final result sees Howie72 sneak past illiniman14 and take the silver medal at the very last second...on a better tie-break Well tried, illini!
N-Bomb had one bad round and he was always playing catch up after that. Dizart left his run too late in the comp while George95 was always in the running without quite getting there. BxBarracuda started the comp and then went default (as with all other comps) after April while Sypher vanished from this comp around July. LeoDaVinci lodged tips for a couple of Davis Cup rounds but he also vanished after September
The 3rd edition of the comp in 2016 will start in February 2016 if we have the quorum for a comp. With sincere thanks to all who played this the whole year long, and hoping to see everyone return in February....
