BxBarracuda has been absent from the forums for a few weeks now...he seems to be visiting the main site at least...wonder if another good "tipster" has lost interest out here :-(

Doomed is very much seen on the site too...wish we could "lure" them all back so it could be more fun in all comps...

  • Thursday night saw Wigan defeat league leaders Leeds (as tricky to type as it is to say), the visiting Rhinos looked like they had secured a thoroughly deserved draw after throwing everything at Wigan in the final 10 minutes but a brain explosion right on full time when the defender obstructed a Wigan player chasing after the ball handed the hosts the win with a penalty goal. In a 12 try thriller, St Helens were never behind against Huddersfield but the Giants hit back to level the scores five times before the last minute field goal won it for the Saints to move them within a point of Leeds. Hull FC came from behind at half time to defeat Castleford boost their Super 8 play-off hopes, now being two points clear of their Hull KR rivals whom they play in the penultimate round. Speaking of Hull KR, they let a 18-4 half time lead disappear to go down to Salford 31-18. Wakefield improved considerably on their 80-0 hiding to Warrington in April but still went down to the Wolves by 20 points in the first head-to-head coaching clash of brothers in the Super League, Tom Smith showing his older brother Brian how it is done. Widnes ended their five match losing streak when the visiting Catalans once again failed to fire away from home.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • Just one match that we all agreed on this week being the Warrington win at bottom place Wakefield.
  • N-Bomb was back in fine form with a perfect 6/6 to take the weekly win and a bonus point (his second). Last week all home teams won and I wonder if George95 noticed this as he went with all away wins, however only one away team won so he earns an 8th spoon of the season.
  • With the perfect round, N-Bomb takes over at the top once again, the bonus point giving him a two point lead over the chasing pack. Srini701 continues to quietly move up the standings, now into a season high tie for second, is he timing his run to perfection?
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six remains steady at seven points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores.

  • Thursday night saw St Helens escape with a victory for the second week in a row by scoring the winning try against Warrington two minutes from the end to temporarily jump to the top of the standings. Widnes needed to win both of their last two matches to have a chance of making the Super 8's but despite a spirited effort, two late tries to Wigan saw them remain unbeaten at home during the weekly rounds. Leeds condemned Salford to fight for Super League survival when the league is split with a demolition of the visiting Reds, recording their highest winning margin of the season and jumped back to the top of the standings. Catalans had only lost at home once in 2015 but this was to change as they went down narrowly to Huddersfield. Hull FC triumphed in the 226th Hull derby and in doing so cemented a place in the Super 8's while, barring a miracle, consigning their fierce rivals to play-off for their survival. It was close at half time between Wakefield and Castleford but the Tigers ran away in the second half to win comfortably and move to 4th equal but with an inferior points difference to Warrington. This leaves one more round until the Super 8's.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • The Wigan and Leeds victories proved popular for us this week with everyone getting these right.
  • Two more perfect rounds this week but they did not affect the top of the table, paper_aero & ozzz2002 earning the weekly win and bonus points. Despite being late for the first match it did not affect PaulE and George95 when it came to giving out spoons, this week Howie72 took home the cutlery.
  • N-Bomb opens up his lead to 3 points while Howie72 drops off the podium with 3/6.
  • ozzz2002 decided he did not like the big gap between the top seven and bottom six so closed it to four points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores.

  • Wigan ended the regular season in good form with just their fourth away win of the season and it was an impressive demolition of fellow Super 8 team Hull FC. Defending champion St Helens also enter the Super 8 in confident mood following their huge win over Hull KR who will need to rebound from this poor run of form in the coming weeks. Following the trend, Warrington end the regular season with a comprehensive victory away at Castleford and will begin the Super 8's four points behind the crucial 4th place. Wakefield will be feeling a little more confident heading into their battle for Super League survival after poor goal kicking kept them just out of reach of upsetting Huddersfield, the victors cementing 4th place. Leeds did enough to overcome Catalans and clinch top spot, the French side finishing 8th and facing four away games in the Super 8 and will they be able to overcome their terrible away form? Widnes were 10 points down with 15 minutes to go before staging their comeback and kicking the winning field goal at the end. This ends the regular season, a break next week before the Super 8's begin. We will find out the draw in a couple of days.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • A good tipping week for us with an average of 5/6. This was helped by us all picking the St Helens, Huddersfield and Leeds victories, could have been four perfect games if not for gtho4 forgetting to tip the Hull FC vs Wigan match.
  • Two more perfect rounds this week with wwe84 and Howie72 earning them and the bonus points. Due to his forgetfulness, gtho4 earns himself a spoon along with ozzz2002 with a very respectable 4/6.
  • N-Bomb sees his lead cut to two points while Howie72 replaces gtho4 on the podium.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six increases back to five points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores.

No gimme point for gtho4, since everyone else tipped the same team?

I thought about that but it is near the end and that could be the crucial point that decides the podium places as it is so close or the difference between HOF and WOS to decide podium places. I was not sure what to do so if people would like me to change it then I will smile

If there's gimme points for being a solo incorrect pick, what's to stop the last person picking from the underdog in those 3 games where everyone else picked the same team? It's no risk-all reward because you get a point either way

It would only be for when you missed a game but still got your tips in before the deadline. This time gtho4 did not tip the first game though he tipped all of the following games and everyone else picked Wigan.

In my opinion I would leave it as is, it is like you enter your tips after the first match has started like PaulE did in round 20, it was about 15 minutes into the game and I counted that as being late even though the score may have still been 0-0.

That's not how it works; it's for non-lodgements. It covers the situation where a player missed the first game (e.g. it was brought forward to Friday night in the FLC comp); and those who did lodge picks in-time all had the same pick. Ditto where a player completely misses a game as his copy and paste was incomplete (and those who did lodge picks all had the same pick). I've gone through a few of the old Results threads across different comps; these are some examples where a gimme has been applied:

I know I've had a couple of gimmes in NFL due to the Thursday games, too...

I thought gtho's non-pick this time was an oversight (the rest of the matches this round did have the time and date in the post, whereas the first match did not) and as such, he should get a gimme point (especially as he lodged his tips well before the matches started smile )

This is how the post showed up:

    Hull FC v Wigan Warriors
Fri 24th Jul 20:00 St Helens v Hull Kingston Rovers
Sun 26th Jul 15:30 Castleford Tigers v Warrington Wolves
Sun 26th Jul 15:00 Huddersfield Giants v Wakefield Wildcats

  • A good tipping week for us with an average of around 5/6. This was helped by us all picking the St Helens, Huddersfield and Leeds victories, along with gtho4 being credited a point for the game he missed tipping due to confusion in the original post of games as everyone else tipped it correctly.
  • Two more perfect rounds this week with wwe84 and Howie72 earning them and the bonus points. The spoon goes to ozzz2002 with a very respectable 4/6.
  • N-Bomb sees his lead cut to two points while Howie72 moves into second with sirini701 and gtho4 on the remaining podium spot.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six increases back to five points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores.

  • Round 22 comprises all 4 games of Super 8's week 1 plus the first tipping games of Super 8's week 2.
  • The Super 8's got under way with Wigan earning the win over Huddersfield but they did it tough, coming back from an early 10-0 deficit and only making sure of the win in the dying minutes. Castleford's game against Hull FC mirrored the first game with the home team starting slowly and overcoming an early 12-0 deficit to emerge with the valuable 2 points in the standings. Leeds did it easier and showed their favouritism by thumping Warrington at home. Despite having a player sent off early in the second half, Catalans showed why they are a force to be reckoned with at home by beating St Helens by 10 points. Week 2 began with another home victory but this was only decided with a last gasp field goal in favour of Castleford over Warrington. Huddersfield made it 6 from 6 for the home teams with a win over Catalans whose struggles away from France continued.
  • BxBarracuda, Sypher and PaulE were running on default fuel. PaulE missed the first week but returned for the second week, however only tipped one of the first two matches for this week so I have put him as default for round 22.
  • Another good tipping week for us with an average of 75%. This was helped by us all picking the first three games. To be diferent, Howie72 tipped Catalans at home over St Helens and it paid off while gtho4 tried Catalans away for one of the week 2 games and was not successful.
  • For the second week in a row Howie72 tips a perfect round for another bonus point, his 4th. The spoon goes to gtho4 with 3/6.
  • Howie72 joins N-Bomb at the top of the ladder but is still well behind with the tie-breaker and these two have opened up a 4 point gap over srini701 in third.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six sneaks back to six points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores.
  • Now to see if I can steal a table from somewhere and show our advance picks.

  • Round 22 comprises the final 2 games of Super 8's week 2 plus the all the games of Super 8's week 3.
  • Leeds moved 4 points clear at the top of the standings with a bruising victory over Wigan, 2 late tries making the scoreline a little more respectable for Wigan. St Helens looked back on track after the first week loss to Catalans when leading 18-6 at half time at home to Hull FC but in a remarkable turn around it was Hull that shocked the defending champions to win by 10 points. St Helen's problems continued in week 3 when they lost for the 3rd time (and second at home) in the Super 8's, Huddersfield being the team to beat them this time and leap over them into 3rd place. After a forgettable first half in which the scores were tied at 6 all, the quality improved after the break but Hull FC could not build on last week as Leeds finished on the winning side. Warrington's season of under-achievement continued with a humiliating loss at home to Wigan where they could not even score a point. After missing the last game due to suspension after being sent-off in the first Super 8 week, Ben Pomeroy returned only to be sent off again. It did not matter in the end as Catalans once again won at home with 12 players, this time denting Castleford's semi-final hopes in the process.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • It was a little tougher tipping this round with no one picking either of St Helens' losses but we all picked the win by Leeds at Hull FC. What was most amazing was that ozzz2002 tipped thee last 4 games twice and tipped the same winners each time. However I am unable to allow him the extra 2 points for the second lot of tips. smile
  • 4/6 was all that was needed for a weekly win and paper_aero, Dizart, gtho4 and N-Bomb all achieved this. Without the aforementioned extra 2 points ozzz2002 earned himself a spoon with 2/6 and was joined by wwe84.
  • N-Bomb moves back in to a solo lead by 1 point over Howe72 with another 4 points back to srini701 and gtho4.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six increases to 7 points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores. The only questions is whether Sypher will tip again to give himself a chance of leaping over the prone BxBarracuda.

  • Round 22 comprises all the games of Super 8's week 4 plus the first 2 games of Super 8's week 5.
  • Huddersfield Giants continued their good run of form with a comfortable win over Castleford to keep hold of third place in the standings. Leeds had won all 3 Super 8 games while St Helens had lost all 3, Leeds was the home team so of course it was obvious that St Helens would emerge triumphant to close the standings up a little. Wigan took advantage of the Leeds slip up by beating Catalans at home, running away from their visitors in the final 20 minutes. Warrington fans finally had something to smile about with a 9 try thumping of Hull FC, a game between two teams with no chance of making the semi finals. It looked like a walk in the park for St Helens when they jumped out to an early 18-0 lead, giving no indication of the drama that would follow. In the end they held on in a 13 try thriller to secure their place in the final four and leaving Castleford in need of a miracle to join them. The final game of the round continued the high scoring earlier games with Wigan doing just enough to bet Hull FC at home but the visitors gave them a huge fright after being behind 18-0 after 21 minutes.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • An excellent tipping week with a total of 54/66 or an 81.8% success rate. We all tipped both of the Wigan victories and the Warrington win. Only one of us foresaw the 'obvious' St Helens victory and that person was ozzz2002.
  • The St Helens win gave ozzz2002 a perfect round, a weekly win and a bonus point. At the other end a meritorious 4/6 was more than enough to earn illiniman14 and George95 a spoon each.
  • No change at the top as the first 4 all got 5/6 leaving N-Bomb ahead by one point and the best tie-breaker figures.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six decreases to 5 points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores. The only question is whether Sypher will tip again to give himself a chance of leaping over the prone BxBarracuda.

  • Round 22 comprises final 2 games of Super 8's week 5 plus all of the games of Super 8's week 6.
  • The cheering in Wigan was deafening as Catalans put in their best performance of the season to destroy league leading Leeds and open up the race for top spot and also for who will earn the home semi finals places. Huddersfield showed once again they will be tough come semi final time as they are the form team, this time it was Warrington who were on the receiving end. The penultimate Super 8 round began with Leed's misery continuing when they were beaten at home by a Castleford team that has already been eliminated from semi final contention. Huddersfield continued on their merry way, a victory at Hull FC giving them 5 wins in a row at the business end of the season. They now have their fate in their own hands as victory over Leeds next week can secure them a home semi final. St Helens denied Wigan top spot in the standings with a try 3 minutes from the end to steal the win. If Catalans could learn how to win away from France they would be competing for the title but alas they are very bad when traveling to England, this time going down by 42 points to Warrington. All this means Leeds and Wigan are tied on 39 points with Leeds ahead on points differential, Huddersfield and St Helens are just 1 point behind so anything can happen in the final week.
  • BxBarracuda, Sypher and Ozzz2002 were running on default fuel. Ozz2002 had tipped the first 2 games the previous week but missed the 4 games this week so I have put him as default for the whole round.
  • George95 missed the Leeds vs Castleford game due to late tips.
  • We all tipped Huddersfield to win both of their games. No one picked Leeds to lose their 2 games which was a relief for George95 as he was late for the second Leeds game.
  • The weekly winners this round are Dizart, srini701 and PaulE with 4/6. Spoons go to paper_aero and George95 with 2/6.
  • N-Bomb maintains his 1 point lead at the top along with his dominating tie-breaker figure so is hot favourite to win the 2015 Super League tipping competition. Howie72 in second place is 3 points ahead of third place srini701 with gtho4 a further point back, gtho4 has the better tie-breaker figures over srini701.
  • The gap between the top seven and bottom six jumps back to 7 points.
  • Sypher and BxBarracuda remain the bottom two with more default scores. The only question is whether Sypher will tip again to give himself a chance of leaping over the prone BxBarracuda.

  • Round 26 comprises the 4 games of Super 8's week 7 plus the advanced picks lodged in round 22.
  • Defending champion St Helens began the last week of Super 8 games needing a win in the Thursday night game to have any chance of a home semi final match but it never looked likely, Warrington looked more like the team that had something to play for as they ran out 16 point winners and consigned the Saints to 4th place. Wigan needed to beat Castleford at home and for Huddersfield to beat Leeds at home to lift the league leader's shield and secure a home semi final against St Helens and they did what they had to, running out comprehensive winners over Castleford. The Huddersfield vs Leeds game was played at the same time and it was looking likely that Wigan would finish on top as Huddersfield lead Leeds 16-8 with a little over 5 minutes left. Leeds were not done and they scored out wide to narrow the gap to 2 points and then kicked a penalty to tie the scores up. Even then a draw would not be enough for Leeds but there was time for kick off and a couple of plays. A chip kick saw the Leeds winger gather the ball and sprint away to claim the victory and a home semi final against St Helens. Wigan host Huddersfield in the other semi final. The final Super 8 game saw Hull FC looking to cap a week of 150th birthday celebrations against a Catalans side that seemed incapable of winning away, the outscored the French side by 6 tries to 5 but could not kick a conversion and ended up on the losing side by 4 points.
  • As I am a little slow with this final update, the two semi finals have been played and it will be a Leeds vs Wigan final. Wakefield also played Bradford to see who would claim the 12th and final Super League spot for next season and triumphed in a nail biter, this sees all 12 teams from this year returning for next season.
  • BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel.
  • No one tipped Warrington to beat St Helens away in a match that had nothing riding on it for them. Only one of us thought Wigan would lose to Castleford and this was ozzz2002, he was looking good at half time as Castleford held a narrow lead but unfortunately for him, rugby league is an 80 minute game and not 40 minutes.
  • Going into the Super 8 rounds it was Leeds in first and St Helens in second but it finished Leeds in first and Wigan in second. Our advanced picks saw 8 of us gain a point for Leeds finishing top and just 4 of us for Wigan finishing second. Unfortunately for PaulE he did not lodge any advance tips in round 22 so missed out on a possible 2 points.
  • The weekly winners this round are srini701, Howie72, illiniman14, gtho4, George95 and N-Bomb with 4/6. The lack of advance tips from PaulE saw him receive the last spoon of the season with 1 point.
  • What does this all mean for the Fun Trivia Super League tipping competition? The top 4 all got 4 points in the final round so the standings remained the same - N-Bomb triumphs by 1 point over Howie72 in a New Zealand quinella with our resident Indian rugby league expert, srini701, a further 3 points back. Sypher remained at the bottom due to inactivity. If I am not mistaken this gives N-Bomb bragging rights in both of the 2015 rugby league tipping competitions following his NRL victory not long ago.
