toocool4u extends his lead out to 11, and we have our first tippers out of the competition. themonarch and dg_dave both have max possible points under toocool4u's 190, and can no longer mathematically win the competition. Behind both of them lies BxBarracuda, who is still technically alive, but the only 4 teams he has left alive for the Elite 8, toocool4u also has. The same roughly holds true for Sypher, who has the same maximum possible points as BxBarracuda, although only 3 of his remaining Elite 8 teams match the top tipper's picks.

LeoDaVinci moves back into 2nd place, matched for the second week in a row by srini701. The latter has 1 more live pick remaining than the former, with 3 more possible points. Although if 7 Michigan State continues their run to how far toocool4u thinks they will go (the championship game), nobody will have a chance. Neither LeoDaVinci nor srini701 have the Spartans winning another game.

The top 3 have far and away the most maximum possible points remaining, although George95 and gtho4 both have at least a 230-point max, despite being in 8th and 10th, respectively. The door remains open for illiniman14, the leading previous champion, to become the first repeat winner. His chances of catching up to the leader may depend on the Elite 8, when 2 Arizona (toocool4u's champion) and 1 Wisconsin (illiniman14's champion) have a potential match.

Nobody has a fully-intact Final Four following the 2 Virginia loss, but everyone who is still mathematically alive for the win has at least 7 live picks. toocool4u is depending on an upset-filled end to the tournament, and if he pulls it off he will win with one of the largest margins of victory this comp has seen. But, if Arizona or Michigan State stumble, the field is ready to get back in.

toocool4u remains well out front by 11 points with a perfect day. A true test to his lead will come Friday. 7 Michigan State, who toocool4u has in the championship game, will face its toughest test in 3 Oklahoma. srini701, sitting in second (after a perfect day also) could make up ground if Michigan State loses and 2 Gonzaga wins. Neither of the top 2 have won this comp before, and while toocool4u has an 11-point lead on srini701, who himself has a 13-point lead on illiniman14, the top previous champion. He can only gain ground on the leaders if Oklahoma wins.

LeoDaVinci finds himself outside the podium for the first time in the comp by 2 points, but he has more live picks on Friday than anyone in the top 3. The only result that will find him losing points to the top 3 would be a Michigan State victory. Tied with him in 4th is ozzz2002, who holds the ace in the hole with a 11 UCLA pick for the Elite 8. That result would vault him into a tie for second place. N-Bomb is still within shouting distance of the podium, but his only live pick on Friday is 1 Duke, which everyone else has as well.

As far as max points possible go, the top 2 still have the top spots. As is indicated by all of his live picks on Friday, LeoDaVinci has the 3rd-most points. gtho4 still has plenty of possible points, as the only dead picks he has are on Friday and Sunday, as he picked 1 Villanova into the Final Four.

Another 2 tippers are mathematically eliminated from winning March Madness this year. Sypher and BxBarracuda both dipped below toocool4u's current 209, despite not missing a pick on Thursday. With a Michigan State win, another 5 tippers will immediately be eliminated.

1 Wisconsin and 2 Arizona both survived scares, while 3 Notre Dame broke away in the second half. The big story was the dismantling of 5 West Virginia by 1 Kentucky. Some trash talking before the game by the Mountaineers' Daxter Miles, Jr., who openly predicted a win on Twitter. Kentucky started on an 18-2 run, and if they hadn't scored in the 2nd half, they would've won 44-39. Instead, the Wildcats won 78-39 in one of the most one-sided games in Sweet 16 history.

For the 14th year in a row, the March Madness comp will have a brand new winner. Every repeat winner has been eliminated, and now only 2 - toocool4u and gtho4 - are in the running. We'll get to the math later for the others not technically eliminated.

toocool4u's chances took a huge bound when 7 Michigan State returned to the Elite 8 yet again. His underdog championship game pick gives him far and away the most possible points, and his lead already stands at 16. He will need 2 more upsets during the weekend, including his champion 2 Arizona over 1 Wisconsin and Michigan State to beat 4 Louisville to set a record for the most lopsided victory in this comp's history.

srini701 is in 2nd place by 16 points, but can only gain 14 points if 2 Gonzaga makes it to the championship game. Aside from that, his picks match toocool4u.

LeoDaVinci in 3rd has max possible points of 226, only 3 above toocool4u's current total. However, both have 1 Kentucky winning their Elite 8 game. A win puts the leader's current total over his max possible points, and a loss puts the max possible points below the leader's current score.

Then comes gtho4. While a significant number of exact results have to happen, he is still in the running to win. Both he and the leader have Kentucky winning their next game, but beyond that the two don't have any matching picks. Not only must Kentucky win it all over 1 Duke, but Wisconsin and Louisville must also win their next games. He holds a 0.78% chance of winning (1/128 - edited because... math).

George95 in 5th has enough max possible points to match toocool4u currently, but the leader has Kentucky winning another game, which George95 needs to happen as well, which will knock him out of the running.

Gonzaga and Duke both started slow, but ended up having somewhat comfortable victories. Louisville went back-and-forth with 8 NC State for much of the game, but a 16-2 run in the second half and 7 points from unknown Anton Gill gave them enough cushion so that NC State needed to foul, giving them a not-so-comfy 10-point win in the end.

The game of the day was Michigan State over 3 Oklahoma. The Sooners held leads of 18-8 and 31-21 in the first half, but a late close kept the Spartans within 4 at halftime. Michigan State never led until 9:30 left in the second half, and never led by more than 5 after that point. In what was previously a horrible free throw shooting night (3/10), Michigan State hit their last 6 straight, and Oklahoma couldn't hit enough shots down the stretch to maintain pace, giving the Spartans a 62-58 victory.

gtho4 needed both 1 Kentucky and 1 Wisconsin to win in order to keep his hopes alive, and with plenty of drama, both happened to do so. toocool4u lost his champion in 2 Arizona, but still has far and away the best hopes of winning this comp. gtho4's odds of winning have increased from 0.78% to 3.125% (1/32). He now needs 4 Louisville and 1 Duke to both win on Sunday to stay alive.

Wisconsin got out early on Arizona 10-2, but soon enough the game was tied at 14. An even first half found the Wildcats up 33-30. An early run in the 2nd half had Wisconsin up 44-36, and they never relinquished the lead. Arizona came the closest at 50-48, but the end of the game held no real drama as the Badgers won 85-78.

You would have never known that Kentucky was the undefeated team in their matchup with 3 Notre Dame. The largest lead of the first half was 3 points, held by Notre Dame at 3 separate times. The first half ended tied at 31. An early Kentucky run had them up 38-33, followed by a 14-4 Notre Dame run. Up 61-56, the Irish felt somewhat comfortable, but with just over 3 minutes left Kentucky went up 64-63. Tied at 66, Notre Dame ran a questionable possession ending with a low-percentage 3-point shot. A foul and 2 free throws put the Wildcats up 68-66, and a missed last-second gasp sent Kentucky to 38-0 to the Final Four. Kentucky did not miss a shot in the last 12:44 of the game.

And just like that, it's all over! With the Final Four still to be played, toocool4u has surpassed what the rest of the field can achieve, and has become the 14th different winner in 14 years! Congratulations!

He did so by riding that Spartan train right to the end. Whereas no one else picked 7 Michigan State past the Elite 8, toocool4u notched them in the championship game. Today, they stand one game away from achieving that very result, and if they do we may have one of the most lopsided victories in the history of this comp.

The race now focuses on who will round out the podium. There are 4 tippers with a chance - srini701, gtho4, LeoDaVinci, and illiniman14. LeoDaVinci can only get on the podium with a 1 Duke national championship. illiniman14 can only get on the podium with a 1 Wisconsin national championship, or possibly a loss to 7 Michigan State (does CBS decide tiebreakers?). srini701 and gtho4 will be decided on whether Duke beats Michigan State - if they do, then gtho4 will edge out srini701 by a single point. The only other player that can make a top-4 appearance is George95 if 1 Kentucky beats Michigan State.

The first Sunday game did its best to kill your humble comp organizer via heart attack. His alma mater, 4 Louisville, led comfortably 40-32 at halftime, only to have it vanish to a 44-43 lead after less than 5 minutes. Michigan State took over the game at that point, going up by as many as 6. With 40 seconds left, Louisville had the ball down 65-64, and a put-back layup just came off the rim as a foul was called. Louisville hit 1/2 free throws, sending the game into overtime. From there, it was all Michigan State. 11 points later, they were moving on to the Final Four 76-70.

The last Elite 8 game provided some drama, but was by far the least competitive of the round. Duke went out to a commanding 23-12 lead early, only to have 2 Gonzaga battle back to be only down 27-26. In the second half, the Bulldogs would lead by as many as 4, up 38-34. But a 14-4 run put the Blue Devils up for good, and they finished with a 66-52 victory.

The gold medal has been reserved for toocool4u. The bronze medal already has "gtho4" engraved on it. Who will take the silver medal? That depends on the national championship game with an opening pick 'em line. If 1 Duke wins, LeoDaVinci takes it home. If 1 Wisconsin wins, it'll be illiniman14 instead. No matter what happens, toocool4u will have the record for the most lopsided win in this comp's history, it's just a matter of whether he'll be sharing it with someone else. With a Wisconsin win, his 23-point victory will set a new record, while a Duke win ties ralzzz's record set in 2008.

7 Michigan State started off terrifically, shooting out to a 14-6 lead by the first media timeout. The next 36 minutes Duke won 75-47. Once the Blue Devils got on their roll, there was really no stopping them. Their lead never dipped below double digits in the second half, and cruised to victory 81-61.

Undefeated 1 Kentucky entered the Final Four as the first team to do so since UNLV in 1991 (who lost in the Final Four). The Wildcats' fate would be no different. The first half was back-and-forth, with Wisconsin going up as many as 9 and Kentucky fighting back. It ended with a Badger buzzer-beater to tie the game at 36. The second half was similar. Wisconsin again went up 8 at 52-44, but a 16-4 run put the Wildcats up 60-56. After some highly-questionable officiating with calls going against both teams (Kentucky got away with a flagrant foul after a slap to the face and Wisconsin got credit for a layup put up after the shot clock expired, to name a couple), it was a 1-point game with just less than a minute left. Wisconsin hit 7/8 free throws during the last 25 seconds, and took down the previously-undefeated giant 71-64.

With Coach K, Duke has a definite edge on a coaching standpoint, I think that will be enough for them to win. However, being a mid-western born and raised lad, I'll be rooting for Wisconsin.
