Hello, I wrote you a reply this morning as I'm often the first one on because of time zones. But unfortunately like my esteemed co editor said, sometimes we can't get on as easily as we'd like, and I'm having some computer difficulties here in Europe.
I'm sorry you've encountered some difficulty but as GTHO said, we're all volunteers, whether moderators of the forums, quiz category editors in Quizzyland, and even administrators. Many of us also contribute quizzes ourselves and therefore, we know from experience the types of problems that quizzes will encounter if they appear without certain formats or in the wrong category.
As a matter of fact, if your quiz is not placed in the right category, it won't get the attention it undoubtedly deserves.
Certain categories are very heavily frequented such as music, entertainment and sports. I personally edit in three categories and music has a much greater volume.
If categories attract first time quizmakers then they need a bit more attention before going online. And I don't think hype is the word I'd use, we do manage the twenty four hour thing in some categories with about ten quizzes per day, but others get about 20 per day.
It's a bit like being a mechanic and getting about 10 cars to do work on, some need an oil change, others need an engine overhauled!
I'll give you an example, if I get a submission from a young person on Boys bands but not on the lyrics or music, but on the personal lives of the stars, it will go into a different category. And if the grammar or format needs fixing, it will take a lot of patient hard work to get it up to snuff. If the quizmaker puts in all fill in the blanks or something, we need to show them that it will end up in the backroom with quiztakers all riled because they didn't type in exactly the same answer or something. That would defeat the purpose. Who wants to get a quiz marked wrong for missing an apostrophe or something? Not me! And besides some people forget the whole point is to share your enthusiasm for the same subject here. Not to totally mystify the people.
I learned this the hard way as a quizmaker with about 66 quizzes online currently. I got flamed for a title thing on a Beatles song that in the written version had an exclamation point and the album version it didn't!
As to our welcome, perhaps I seem biased as I'm now a moderator, but I honestly don't think there are many people who are deeply disappointed with our welcome. Remember that I was once a first time quizmaker at one time too, and had to go through the same processes as anyone else. I was never treated with any disrespect in the least, far from it! Of course my quiz got corrected and rejected once or twice, but that's the way of the game.
I know from experience that I had to coach one person to put a catchier title on his or her quiz as I said, "It's such a good quiz but the title isn't saying much about it, and there are way too many lyrics quizzes...trust me."
Well the person trusted me, and lo and behold, the quiz shot to the tops!
Of course it's a major pain doing some of the stuff we require, I realize this, but we know from trial and error what works from behind the scenes.
You have to remember that if we don't take the pain to do it now, that you'll be subject to the quiztakers, and it will end up getting rejected for things.
Remember once again, not to lose your temper with us, because if we didn't do this, then the quizmakers would, and unfortunately they are not all as patient as us editors are. We hope they are, and we'll send them notes if they aren't polite or something if you tell us, but sometimes they'll zap you. The last one I heard that cracked me up was when a guy told a quizmaker that it was BELEIVE instead of BELIEVE!
Of course you'll see quizzes from time to time that have slipped through the wire, and have problems. The quizzes are all by amateurs after all, and the bulk of them have been building for years now. But we've learned a lot of lessons over the time. They get ironed out with the correction notices.
Well that's my two cents or pence for today. Just hang on there.
Don't forget either, have fun doing it.
