Hi all,

Does anyone know how long quizzes are classified as New?
I have some quizzes that have been online for about a month and a half and are still classified as new?
After how long is it considered a quiz is no longer to be classified as "new"?

I think that this one depends on how many people have taken it. But someone will elaborate on this answer.

Quizzes are classified as 'new' even after 20 or more people have taken it. If I remember correctly, quizzes change status every two months or so. It takes time, but just think, one day you'll sign on to Funtrivia and your quizzes won't say 'new'. This happened to me, and boy, was I shocked.

I think right now they stay "new" until Terry updates the stats database

hi again,
Well now it's been about 2 months for some of my quizzes and they still go unranked and remain with the bright yellow "new" classification which is really annoying me now.

Is Terry on holiday?

rankings used to be updated daily around 5am (our evenings downhere), but Quizzyland's size went beyond any expectations the Head Honcho aka Terry had, so he turned it off in mid-2001, as it was crashing the site .. he manually updated the rankings about 2 or 3 months ago, but there are now so many quizzes online the site went down he did it (either that, or he turned it off)

I suppose Terry'll need to look at the structure of this place, and the stats it generates, as it's now feeding on itself - and has outgrown whatever code he'd written, or whatever expectations he had when he wrote it .. I'll stand corrected, but that's how I read it

what he said!
In addition, once it is updated we'll see surprises as the quizzes rated are entered all the while, and then upgraded all of a sudden. I had one of mine up at 114 and it was neat. I had no idea it had worked so well.
The new status sometimes means your quiz gets more attention though, in my experience. On my 66 quizzes I have noticed that the "new" rating actually attracted more people to it.
What Gtho said is true though, this site has had rapid growth and on a given day I've seen 300 people on. Hopefully the boom will be something to deal with.
Never forget that we're all volunteers taking care of the forums and quizzyland even the big guy Terry.
It's a labor of love.

I honestly cant remember how long they stay new for Whatever the algorithm, it made sense at the time.

As for updates, yeah, I'm going to reschedule them to take place at 5 AM every Wednesday night (so tonight look for an update). Let's hope the machine doesn't die!

Hi all,

I tend to agree with Bruyere about the 'new' quizzes. They are always my first port of call.

I have written 2 quizzes for a very 'niche' audience, and guess that they will stay with the 'new' tag for many months to come. (Check out Australian stamp collecting under 'Collectibles' )

Cheers, and hope I did not muddy the waters too much.. hehe

Bye, from a very hot and humid Sydney

ozzz
