For those of you who don't know much about them, Cone Snails are a group of venomous marine animals. I like Cone Snails because many of them have beautifully-patterned shells. My collection of Cone Snails consists of six shells: the Vexillum Cone, the Leopard Cone, the Imperial Cone, the Marbled Cone, the Cloth of Gold Cone, and the most venomous of them all, the Geography Cone. My shells, of course, are empty ones. To learn more about these fascinating animals, feel free to play my Cone Snail quiz, 'Beautiful but Deadly'.

They sound lovely. You could post a photo in the photo-a-day thread and show us!

They're very beautiful and very dangerous from what I've heard. The Academy of Natural Sciences has a mounted Geography Cone with a description that it killed the person who collected it.

As I mentioned in my quiz, in 1935 a young man picked up a live Geography Cone on a small island off the coast of Queensland, Australia. He was stung and died a few hours later. This is because the Geography Cone feeds on fish, so its venom is designed specifically to kill vertebrates, including us. I've never been there, but apparently, the Queensland Museum has the actual specimen responsible for this fatality.
