Richmond mauled Fremantle in the first quarter and opened up a 30 point lead, they were able to hold on and continue their impressive run of form for a fourth successive win and consign the Dockers to their first loss of the season. Adelaide held off a brave effort from Carlton to earn a narrow 9 point victory. Gold Coast went down by 52 points to Sydney and coupled with Carlton's narrow loss, take over bottom place on points differential. Many had written off Geelong after a heavy loss last week but they showed they still have life in them with a dominant display against Essendon, moving to within one win of the top 8. After leading by just 10 at three quarter time, Port Adelaide ran away from the Bulldogs in the last 30 minutes to win comfortably in the end and keep their season alive. GWS continue to set new club records this season, this time securing their seventh win of the season for the first time with an unspectacular victory over an injury-plagued Brisbane. North Melbourne hung on to beat West Coast by ten points despite playing into a gale force wind in the last quarter with just a six point lead. Hawthorn ended their yo-yo run with an easy victory over Sydney, the first time this season they have won back to back. Collingwood showed enough composure at critical times to eke out a tough away win over Melbourne.BxBarracuda and N-Bomb were running on default fuel this week.After everyone missed Richmond beating Fremantle in the first match, srini701 (first) and chogobad (season leading fourth) went 8 for 8 to earn a weekly win. Sypher tried for a couple of upsets but picked the wrong ones and ended up with 4/9 and a first spoon of the season.No one believed Fremantle would lose for the first time this season but we all tipped Adelaide, Sydney and Hawthorn to win.It was not a good week for N-Bomb to be on default fuel but he still maintains a spot on the top of the podium, sharing it with gtho4 again. Yet another default score from BxBarracuda sees him now 11 points adrift. |

Geelong withstood an early Port Adeladie barrage to come away with a very important away win to maintain their dominance over the Power, making it 11 wins in the last 12 games between these two. Bottom placed Gold Coast came within a whisker of the biggest upset of the season but top of the table Fremantle held on to win by 6 points in a very low scoring match. West Coast powered away from Essendon in the second quarter and never looked back in winning by 50 points. The Sydney Swans maintained second place with a tough away win at North Melbourne. GWS suffered a number of injuries and were blown away in the final quarter by Collingwood. Melbourne took the lead against St Kilda with 41 seconds left and thought they had done enough but the Saints had other ideas and kicked the winning goal with 19 seconds to go. The Demons have now lost 11 in a row to St Kilda and 21 in a row at Etihad Stadium.BxBarracuda was running on default fuel again this week.I would like to send a big thank you to ozzz2002 for his perfect round of 6/6, it has saved me a lot of work as there would have been 9 perfect rounds if Port Adelaide had beaten Geelong so I will reward him with a bonus point. Sypher went back to back with spoons by tipping 3/6.We all predicted Fremantle would win away at Gold Coast.Nothing has changed at the top as the top 4 had identical picks, N-Bomb and gtho4 remain tied for the lead. Adelaide did themselves no favours in an error-ridden display against Hawthorn in a battle of the birds, the Hawks winning comfortably over the Crows in the end. Another win for the birds on a cold Friday night at the MCG with the West Coast Eagles showing why they are a top four team in disposing of an inform Richmond by 20 points, only their 5th win in 18 matches at the MCG since the 2006 Grand Final and 1st since 2007 over any team other than Melbourne. Port Adelaide got shocked by Carlton as the Blues climbed off the bottom of the table with a narrow victory over a fast finishing Power who came from 29 points down early in the last quarter to just fall short. North Melbourne kept their season alive with a commanding away win at GWS but still remain outside the top eight. The Bulldogs showed they are not out of it despite inconsistent form over recent weeks and secured a large victory over the visiting Brisbane Lions. North Melbourne had not beaten Geelong away at Simonds Stadium since round 20 in 2005, including a mauling by 186 points in 2011 but they put in an inspired performance to come away with a stunning upset win by 24 points.BxBarracuda was running on default fuel again this week.ozzz2002 and ozfei missed the first match with late picks.Sypher earned himself a weekly win with an impressive 5/6 considering there were a couple of major upsets, his faith in Brisbane was the only thing that stopped him from a perfect round. At the other end, Dizart gained a spoon with a not quite so impressive 1/6 but combined with Sypher would have been perfect as he got the only one correct Sypher missed.Every match had at least one correct tip and no match was missed by everyone. Sypher was the only one of us who was certain Melbourne would break their 10 year losing streak at Geelong. Sypher and wwe84 both believed Carlton would win at home to Port Adelaide and climb off the bottom of the ladder.Not much has changed at the top as the top 4 other than gtho4 had identical picks, N-Bomb remains in the lead but gtho4 drops back to a tie for second. Yet another default score from BxBarracuda sees him now 15 points adrift. |

In slippery conditions, Fremantle held off a persistent Collingwood for a narrow victory with both teams showing they have legitimate chances to make the grand final. Richmond stormed home in the final quarter to overcome a 32 point half time deficit away to Sydney to show last weeks loss to West Coast was just a blip in their mid-season run. After a very close first half Hawthorn pulled away from Essendon in the second half to move into the top four in the standings. Adelaide dug deep in Brisbane to overcome a 24 point deficit at three-quarter time to deny their hosts a third win of the season. The Bulldogs got revenge for a shock loss to St Kilda in round 6 with a narrow and thrilling six point victory. Carlton win back-to-back for the first time this season when they overran a listless Gold Coast, leaving the visitors at the bottom of the ladder.BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel this week.illiniman14, ASA and N-Bomb missed the first match with late picks.It was round of weekly wins with half of those who tipped (7) earning a weekly win with 5/6. ASA earns his first spoon of the season with 2/6,George95 and 22crows will be breathing a sigh of relief (unless they like spoons) that ASA missed the first match so did not end up with 3/6.None of us thought Richmond would travel to Sydney and return home with four points and a victory. Brisbane was once again the downfall of a sole tipper, this time being ASA.With N-Bomb missing the first match, gtho4 and paper_aero took advantage to join him at the top of the standings, just like it was back in rounds 2 and 3. Yet another default score from BxBarracuda sees him now 16 points adrift. |

Round 14 has been overshadowed by the tragic murder of Adelaide Crows coach, Phil Walsh. Subsequently, the Adelaide vs Geelong match was cancelled but the other eight matches went ahead. In memory of Phil Walsh there will not be a recap this week....RIP.

To say Collingwood started slowly is an understatement as they were behind 33-7 after the first quarter but then started to work their way back into it only to run out of time and go down by three points. In an error-ridden match, Richmond did enough to secure an important win over Carlton, giving them seven wins in their last eight matches. After losing by 110 points to St Kilda last week, Essendon turned it around to defeat Melbourne and record their first victory since round 8. It looked like Gold Coast would upset the Bulldogs in Cairns when leading by 37 points in the third quarter but the faded and a 10 goal final quarter saw the Bulldogs overtake them. Geelong last played 20 days ago and it showed when a rusty effort saw them fall to North Melbourne by 41 points, giving the Kangaroos a third win on the bounce over the Cats. In an emotional night Adelaide played for the first time since the death of their coach and a big second quarter was enough to see West Coast beat them by 56 points. Greater Western Sydney took a giant step towards the play-offs by beating St Kilda at home and jumping back into the top eight. In Tasmania it was billed as a preview of the grand final but it did not live up to it as Hawthorn were never troubled by the league leading Fremantle and easily won by 72 points. Sydney swanned into Brisbane and left as the only away winner of the round but it was not easy against a spirited Lions.BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel this week.It was a good week for perfect matches as all 14 of us tipped the Richmond, Bulldogs, West Coast and Sydney victories. The only major difficulty was the Port Adeaide win where only gtho4, wwe84 and ASA saw this happening.gtho4 slipped off to Greece but did not slip up as he recorded his second perfect round of the season with 9/9. At the other end Dizart, ozzz2002 and 22crows all got more than 50% correct but still came away with a spoon each and a respectable 5/9.The perfect round plus bonus point has seen gtho4 open up a three point gap at the top of the standings over N-Bomb with paper_aero a further point behind. Last week these three were tied at the top. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him now 18 points adrift of Dizart.

North Melbourne needed a win on Friday night to keep in touch with the top 8 and duly delivered, giving them back-to-back wins for just the second time this season. In the latest edition of Pet Wars the Cats won the battle over the Dogs to continue their dominance, Geelong were never behind in defeating the Western Bulldogs for the 8th game in a row. Greater Western Sydney continued their record setting season with their 9th win but did it hard, having to come from behind twice against the Gold Coast Suns in the final quarter to keep their place in the top 8. Despite a case of the goalkicking yips West Coast showed that Eagles are too much of a match for Magpies in defeating Collingwood away to keep the pressure on Fremantle atop the standings. For the second week in a row Hawthorn ran riot over a top 4 side and destroyed the Sydney Swans by 89 points, no one will be wanting to face the Hawks while they are in this mood though Carlton will have to next week. Speaking of Carlton, they warmed up for their nightmare next week with a plucky though unsuccessful match against league leading Fremantle, being kept scoreless in the final quarter as the Dockers kicked their highest score since round 8. Brisbane remained bottom of the table after losing at home to a fellow cellar dwelling Melbourne in a dull and scrappy match, the Lions only scoring 36 points. Despite a thrilling last quarter comeback, Port Adelaide Power ran out of time and went down by 3 points to their rival Adelaide Crows. Richmond Tigers held a 52 point lead at three quarter time over St Kilda but it was the Saints who finished stronger but like Port Adelaide they ran out of time, going down by 16 points in the end.BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel this week.Overall it was a slightly better tipping week this week than last week though just two perfect matches compared to four last time. The North Melbourne and Fremantle victories were these two matches.No perfect rounds but srini701, ozfei, George95, Howie72, N-Bomb and 22 crows all went close with 8/9 to earn the weekly wins. At the other end wwe84, ASA and chogobad all gained spoons with a once again respectable 5/9.N-Bomb cuts gtho4's lead back to one point and Howie72 joins the podium for the first time this season in joining paper_aero in third. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him now 19 points adrift of Sypher and wwe84.

Unfortunately for Carlton, they met Hawthorn in their best form of the season and came away with tails between their legs and the biggest loss in their 119 year history. GWS drop out of the top 8 play-offs with 6 games remaining when they went down to Geelong, the Cats now knocking on the door of the top 8. Gold Coast travelled to Adelaide but the Sun set on their hopes of an upset as the Crows came out victorious by 45 points. Richmond Tigers had a golden chance to beat league leading Fremantle but they came away declawed as the Dockers kicked a 50m goal in the final minute to snatch the win. In front of their lowest home crowd ever at Etihad Stadium, the home team Essendon Bomber's poor season continued as Port Adelaide powered away at the to record their first win over the Bombers since 2010. Last week Brisbane scored 36 points, this week it was worse with only 35 points and as expected they went down heavily to North Melbourne. Western Bulldogs dealt Collingwood's finals hopes a blow with a comfortable victory over the Magpies. In the battle of two rebuilding teams struggling near the foot of the table it was St Kilda that came away victorious in the wet over Melbourne. West Coast Eagles kept up the pressure on Fremantle by keeping the Sydney Sans to their lowest score of the season and easily beating the fourth place team.BxBarracuda was running on default fuel this week.Another two matches were predicted by all of us being the Hawthorn and Adelaide wins. We welcome Sypher back but he obviously had not been keeping up with the results (or had amazing faith in Brisbane) as he thought the last place Lions would beat North Melbourne while no one else saw this happening, unfortunately for him Brisbane did not even get close.Once again 8/9 was the score needed to earn a weekly win but this time it went to ASA and 22crows. At the other end 5/9 was the spoon score for the third week in a row with Sypher and N-Bomb having this honour.gtho4 has increased the lead at the top to two points and becomes the first centurion this season though more will follow next week barring a round of major upsets, paper_aero drops off the podium but it is very close between the top 8 and there will be many changes to come. Hawthorn were on an eight game winning streak and had won their last three games by an average of almost 100 points, including two of the top four teams. The talk was Hawthorn would go unbeaten from now and retain their title but people did not count on Richmond getting in the way of this, superb tactics and tenacious battling saw the Tigers surprisingly but deservedly beat the Hawks on their home turf. Geelong Cats were too good for the Brisbane Lions and jumped back into the top eight but showed little to build confidence among its supporters as they begin a tough end to the regular season next week. Collingwood had to beat Melbourne to keep in touch of a play-off spot but they continued their recent struggles, going down for a sixth consecutive loss to fall six points behind the top eight, this against a team that had no chance of making the play-offs. Adelaide have dropped out of the top eight after yet another disappointing performance, going down easily to a resurgent Sydney Swans. North Melbourne jumped out to a big lead early over Carlton but the Blues gave them a fright when closing to four points near half time but that was a good as it got as the 'Roos pulled away in the second half for a big win and jump over Adelaide into the top eight. We had to go coast to coast for the first draw of the season when West Coast kicked the tying goal with four seconds remaining to break Gold Coast hearts. Port Adelaide kept their finals hopes alive with a 63 point thrashing of St Kilda to close within six points of the top eight. The Dog days of winter continued as the Western Bulldogs won big against the hapless Essendon Bombers to improve their for and against points percentage. Fremantle moved closer to sealing top spot for the play-offs with a hard fought victory over Greater Western Sydney.BxBarracuda was running on default fuel this week.Another two matches were predicted by all of us being the Sydney and Fremantle wins but not surprisingly, no one predicted 17th place Gold Coast would draw with 2nd place West Coast. Somehow ASA saw Richmond winning away at Hawthorn, the same with Dizart seeing Melbourne beating Collingwood in his crystal ball, the rest of us need refunds from Crystal Balls 'R' Us, especially paper_aero who had too much faith in Cartlton.Dizart and ASA were the weekly winners with a meritorious 7/9 while Sypher is still struggling to get back into tipping and won himself a second consecutive spoon with 3/9.gtho4 maintains a two point lead at the top as six of the top seven had identical tips, the only one that didn't was paper_aero who drops to eighth, his lowest position all season. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him still 19 points adrift of Sypher.

Friday night saw the first upset of the round when Adelaide stopped Richmond in their tracks and temporarily moved into the top eight, it would have been a much bigger victory margin but for inaccurate goal kicking. Collingwood was staring at their worst losing streak since 1999 but faced a Carlton side also on a losing streak and it was the Magpies that came away with the win. The Western Bulldogs bite was worse than its bark as it destroyed Port Adelaide by 64 points and moved into 4th place in the standings, all but extinguishing the Power's play-off ambitions. In a match between the two bottom teams, Gold Coast proved it is still the best team in Queensland by narrowly beating Brisbane in an entertaining match leaving the Lions in the wooden spoon position for another with a crucial game against the Blues next week to possibly determine where the spoon will live during the off-season. In a wet and wild Perth the Hawks won the battle of the birds of prey when beating the Eagles, Hawthorn closing in on the second place West Coast as a result. Geelong remained in the top eight despite being behind by 13 points at half time, a dominating second half performance saw them beat Sydney by 32 points and knock the Swans out of the top four. North Melbourne Kangaroos hopped all over Melbourne to win comfortably and jump back into the top eight. The Giants did what they had to against lowly Essendon and that was to win to keep their chances of a maiden play-off spot alive. Fremantle's march towards a minor premiership carried on with a clinical win away at St Kilda.BxBarracuda and N-Bomb were running on default fuel this week.Another two matches were predicted by all of us being the Collingwood and North Melbourne wins. ASA had faith in St Kilda to topple league leading Fremantle but it proved to be misplaced while paper_aero went out on a limb to back Port Adelaide and Essendon, it could have been a move of pure genius but alas it was one of pure madness.chogobad dominated this round and earned a second bonus point with a perfect 9/9 round, at the other end paper_aero gains a first spoon of the season with 3/9.gtho4 maintains a two point lead at the top but N-Bomb's default drops him off the podium to be replaced by 22crows. It is getting tight at the top with just 3 points separating the top 5. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him 23 points adrift of Sypher.

Sydney Swans all but ended Collingwood's play-off hopes as they overcame a small last quarter deficit to run out narrow winners though it will be the Magpies ruing inaccurate kicking. The biggest score and winning margin of the round went to Adelaide as the demolished a very poor Essendon by 112 points and move into the top eight as well as improving their for/against percentage significantly. A nine goal third quarter burst saw North Melbourne turn a 20 point half time deficit to St Kilda into a 25 point three quarter time advantage and a comfortable victory in the end. Port Adelaide severely dented Greater Western Sydney's play-of hopes in a spiteful clash. Hawthorn were never seriously threatened by Geelong and have their eyes on second place if league leading Fremantle can defeat West Coast, with the loss Geelong has slipped out of a play-off spot. In the battle to avoid the wooden spoon it was not even close as Brisbane won big over Carlton, the winning margin being enough to take them off the bottom of the table and be replaced by Carlton, could come down to who can avoid the biggest defeats over the closing rounds. As expected Richmond Tigers mauled Gold Coast to keep their top four hopes alive and the coveted double chance advantage in the play-offs. Western Bulldogs maintained their top four spot with a comprehensive 98 point thrashing of a woeful Melbourne Demons. The West Coast derby went the way of the second place Eagles over the first place Dockers, giving West Coast just their 5th win in the last 20 derbies and first in the last seven.BxBarracuda and ozzz2002 were running on default fuel this week.Once again two matches were predicted by all of us being the Adelaide and North Melbourne wins. The same can be said for Sypher and his thoughts of Melbourne beating Western Bulldogs, the 98 point deficit proving him wrong. Two more perfect rounds this week with George95 and illiniman having the honour of picking 9/9 but paper_aero makes it back-to-back spoons with 4/9 and a new low of 13th place, he was in third place after round 16.gtho4's lead is cut to one point but it is George95 who is right behind him after the perfect round and bonus point. Howie72 is the one to drop off the podium this week. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him 26 points adrift of Sypher.

In a wretched season Port Adelaide has played one of their best matches of the season when travelling to the Hawthorn and coming away 22 point victors, dealing the Hawks a massive blow in their attempt to earn a top two finish. The Collingwood Magpies turned from black & white to red as they were embarrassed at home by Richmond, the Tigers demolishing them by 91 points. It was only slightly better for GWS as they only went down at home by 89 to the Sydney Swans. Essendon Bombers put in an improved performance but it was not enough as they went down to Gold Coast by 2 points in a thriller. Geelong's finals aspirations were dealt a blow as St Kilda kicked a late behind to steal a draw though it could have been worse if the kick was more accurate. Adelaide Crows did everything they needed to and more against the Brisbane Lions, thumping them by 87 points to consolidate their 8th place. North Melbourne Kangaroos all but cemented a play-off spot and kept alive their hopes of a top four finish by narrowly beating league leading Fremantle, the Dockers grip on first place now looking shaky after consecutive losses. Carlton Blues may have said goodbye to the wooden spoon with a comfortable win over the woeful Melbourne Demons, the Blues now a win ahead of Brisbane who have two tough games to finish the season. West Coast Eagles continue to soar high as they put in a dominating second half performance to crush fellow play-off contenders, the Western Bulldogs, by 77 points and closed in on first place.BxBarracuda and Sypher were running on default fuel this week.Not surprisingly, we all picked Adelaide to beat Brisbane at home but no one thought Hawthorn would lose at home or St Kilda and Geelong would play out a draw. Going against the tide were illiniman14 in tipping GWS to beat Sydney and Dizart who thought the Bulldogs would travel to Perth and beat West Coast, unfortunately for them it was not even close in ether match. ASA continues his late season revival with a third weekly win in the last five weeks but it looks like it will be too little too late. Dizart earns a third spoon of the season and is joined by illiniman14 who gets his first, leaving just four of us without a spoon and two rounds to go.Not much change out front with gtho4 maintaining his one point lead over George95, the only change being these two moving another point clear of the chasing pack. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him 27 points adrift of Sypher.

Collingwood Magpies put last weeks embarrassment behind then with a comprehensive win over Geelong and in doing so ended the Cats run of finals football since 2006. GWS also turned around a huge loss last week to record an equally huge win over Carlton. Hawthorn Hawks thumped the Brisbane Lions at home to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top two, the Lions now need to beat the Bulldogs next week and hope Carlton don't pull off a major upset against Hawthorn to avoid the wooden spoon. Western Bulldogs made a statement against a fellow play-off team when defeating the North Melbourne Kangaroos, both teams remaining outside the top four. Richmond Tigers were not at their best in wet and slippery conditions but did enough to gain the vital win over Essendon Bombers to keep them in with a chance of a top four finish. Port Adelaide will be ruing early season form as they will miss out on finals football despite beating the Gold Coast in a fiery match which will be most remembered for a melee on the stroke of halftime that saw punches being thrown. Adelaide showed they will be a force to reckon with in the play-offs with an impressive 57 point win over the West Coast which will hand Fremantle the minor premiership if they beat Melbourne Demons, the Eagles now need to win next week to cement second place. Sydney Swans strengthened their grip on a top four finish when they destroyed St Kilda by 97 points. Seven spoons were handed out to George95 (1st), gtho4 (2nd), srini701 (1st), illiniman14 (2nd), Howie72 (1st), Sypher (5th) and N-Bomb (2nd). This leaves just ozfei without a spoon.gtho4 retains his one point lead over George95 with another point back to 22crows, these three should be standing on the podium after the final round unless someone forgets to tip or there is a disaster. Another default score from BxBarracuda sees him 27 points adrift of Sypher.

Hawthorn warmed up for the play-offs with a 57 point thumping of Carlton. Geelong ended the season in style with a comfortable win over play-off bound Adelaide. Richmond outplayed North Melbourne but how much can be read into it is anybody's guess as they meet again in an elimination final next week. Fremantle had already won the minor premiership so rested key players, it showed as they were destroyed by Port Adelaide. Essendon took the lead over Collingwood with less than 90 seconds left and as a result won their first match since round 15. Sydney Swans lead from start to finish over Gold Coast to record a 63 point win. Melbourne had not won at Etihad Stadium in the last 22 attempts but the curse was lifted as they beat GWS in front of the lowest crowd ever for an AFL match at the stadium. West Coast put in a dominant display against St Kilda in preparation for a visit from Hawthorn in the upcoming qualifying final. The Bulldogs put in a lethargic display at Brisbane to go down narrowly against the bottom placed team. The Lions win and Carlton's big loss was enough to hand the wooden spoon to the Blues on points differential.BxBarracuda was running on default fuel this week.We all tipped Hawthorn and Sydney to win but no one thought Essendon would finally win again. Sypher had a topsy-turvy round as he was the only one to miss the Eagles win but was the only one to have faith in the Lions to beat the Bulldogs and avoid the wooden spoon.This week the sole winner is ASA with 7/9 and the sole spoon went to paper_aero with 3/9. This leaves just ozfei without a spoon for the season.Now where do the medals head to? The gold goes to gtho4 and he even doubled his lead over second place to two points. 22 Crows outscored George95 by one point to draw level in second and win the silver medal on the tie-break (+3 vs +2).The end of season awards are as follows:

Thanks Howie72 for keeping the scoreboard and providing expert commentary on each round.
Well done to gtho4 for taking out the "flag" this season.
It was nice to improve on my last season's performance. I think it was Collingwood who let me down the most - winning or losing when I didn't want them too.
Hopefully the Saints will start to show more improvement next season.
