1st leg of FT Triple Crown This year's race is almost here .. the Grand National Steeplechase was first run in 1839. The scoring system is the same for all three legs of the FT Triple Crown (Grand National, Kentucky Derby and Melbourne Cup). The FT Triple Crown was first contested in 2003 .. this year's comp is the 13th edition. No-one has won the FT Triple Crown .. szabs in 2009 and George95 in 2012 have won two legs (they both missed the Grand National), and 22crows last year (missed the Melbourne Cup). RULESo The rules for this comp are simple, and are the same as last year and the year before. o Pick 10 horses in the order you think they'll finish, 1st to 10th. o Points: for any horse out of the 10 you've picked, which finishes in the first five places:1st : 10 pts 2nd : 6 pts 3rd : 3 pts 4th : 2 pts 5th : 1 pt o The order of your picks will be used as a tiebreaker to separate any dead-heats or ties. o If two players have identical picks x10, whoever posts first wins the tie-breaker. DEADLINEThe race starts on Saturday 11th April 2014 at 4:15pm UK time. Tips close on the hour at 4:00pm with a short period of grace of a couple of minutes. The following three pages (of many out there) have details of the contenders and their form: grand-national-guide.co.uk aintree-grand-national.net grand-national-betting.co.ukwww.grand-national2015.co.ukThe field of 40 runners and their barriers will be announced three days before the race on Wednesday night local time. [ published 10:00am Thursday ] Picks x10 can be posted at any time in this thread, even if the field has not been announced! At the moment there 74 acceptors still in the running. Please do not pick reserves. If your horse is scratched, so be it (we've got 10 picks in a field of 40 runners). However, you are free to edit your picks at any time before the deadline.

11 players lodged picks 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th | 2 24 21 37 7 | | Many Clouds Saint Are Monbeg Dude Alavarado Shutthefrontdoor |
Position 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Horse number 2 24 21 37 7 Points 10 6 3 2 1 pts tie-breaker 1. wwe84 10 2 1 13 (5) 2. ozzz2002 10 2 1 13 (6) 3. illiniman14 6 2 1 9 - (9) 4. gtho4 6 1 7 - (10) 5. George95 2 1 3 - - - (3) 6. paper_aero 2 1 3 - - - (6) 7. N-Bomb 1 1 - - - - (1) 8. Howie72 1 1 - - - - (1)

- The English leg of the FT Triple Crown was hotly contested between two Aussies - wwe84 and ozzz2002. Both scored 13 and depended on their orders to determine a victor. wwe84 tipped Many Clouds in 5th and ozzz2002 picked him in 6th.
- They were the only 2 tippers to pick the winner.
- The only 2 to pick Saint Are in 2nd were illiniman14 and gtho4. illiniman14 also got Alvarado in 4th, which gtho4 missed, giving him the bronze.
- Nobody picked Monbeg Dude at 40-1 to finish 3rd. There has been a top-5 finisher that nobody picked every year since 2011.
- George95 and paper_aero tied for 5th, picking the 4th and 5th horses. George95 won on a count back, taking Alvarado in 3rd as compared to paper_aero's 6th.
- The battle for last came down to who put in their picks first. N-Bomb and Howie72 both only got Shutthefrontdoor and picked him to win, but N-Bomb got his picks in 23 hours and 57 minutes before Howie.
- Last year's winner, Pineau de Re, finished in 12th this year. Supposed favorite Balthazar King, who finished 2nd last year, fell early on and broke some ribs, but as of yet there's no indication he'll have to be put down.
- This completes the first leg of the FT Triple Crown, with the Kentucky Derby on May 2 and the Melbourne Cup coming on November 3.
